I want all 5 of my girls together darn it! Tempo, Daisy and Ohana are in one cage, Elodie and Jynx in another. Tempo was introduced to Daisy and Ohana back in June. Elodie and Jynx I successfully introduced in August. But to get them together? Oh grief. The only one causing problems is Ohana. Daisy, Tempo, Elodie and Jynx are the same... They are interested and eager in having more friends. But for the life of me I can't figure out why Ohana is so reluctant. I understand they're scent oriented and such, but nothing I've done can sway her. What worked with my other two intros was taking CLEAN bonding bags, putting them in there, and putting the bags on top of one another, back to back. Later placing the windows about an inch away, and judging on those reactions, bring them to the tub for intros (this is after pouch and cage swapping). Both times prior, NO issues. It went BEAUTIFULLY. But this go round. *head desk* I'm frustrated. I want my happy colony of 5!!!! So I've been looking into the method of mouthwash and a shower. I've spoken to a few people who've integrated colonies together this way because the others ways failed. I'm just not sure. Advice? Words of encouragement? Ideas? Just no brow beating please! lol j/k

I would NOT use mouthwash! But if you are wanting to mask scent, you might try a drop of vanilla extract. Less than a drop if possible.

If you use vanilla extract, you can put a few drops in your hand, rub it into your hands until your hands are dry, then give each glider a quick rub. Don't know if the vanilla extract works or not, some say it does, others don't feel the same way.

The mouthwash method, as explained to me, is putting mouthwash into a small spray bottle, watering it down, and putting one spray over their back areas.
Somebody else I know used this method and then put them in a small travel cage and lightly drizzled it. She said this helped their natural scents dissipate and the scent of the mouthwash slightly lingered.
They were too busying grooming themselves and others because they were wet, and the mouthwash helped them all smell the same.
Gah. So frustrated. I'd totally pay somebody to do this for me if I could be guaranteed a good outcome. Any glider whisperers out there? xD

I'm really weary of using mouthwash...even if it's watered down.
Gliders put their mouths on..well.. just about EVERYTHING. And, lets keep in mind that mouthwash bottles do say that WE even should not ingest it.

Would eucalyptus work? Rub a leaf on the gliders? That stuff has gotta be as pungent as mouthwash, and okay for them to ingest.

What about the idea of just a shower? It MAKES sense to me. I don't know. I'm so frustrated. I wish Ohana would just cooperate with me already. I've had the cages next to each other for a while now but I moved them much closer (without any chance of tails being grabbed) last night. Of course Ohana took no part in the investigation whereas the other 4 were so curious. I'm letting the pouches get 'ripe' and then will switch them out. I'm determined to make this work, even if it's the death of me! lol

Megs - if 4 of your girls are happy with each other let them share a cage for a few days and leave Ohana in the other cage. Then swap pouches so Ohana gets the combined scent of the other 4 gliders. Then try introducing the group to her. If she still rejects the other 4 then If I were trying to get the stubborn one to cooperate I would start to introduce the others back to her one at a time over several days. I too would be very cautious with using mouthwash. Most do contain alcohol, some contain fluoride. Neither should be ingested by gliders. Swallowing mouthwash is NOT recommended on the label.
