my joey is 1 week OOP today.. when i open the pouch he is usually sleeping next to mom n dad.. is it ok to start bra training for short periods when he isnt nursing? how long can i keep him in there at this age? idk how often he eats or if my body heat will be warm enough?
i think he is too young but i wouldnt know since ive never had a joey this young before.. lol!
thanks
nicole

One week OOP is a little too young to start bra training. You would probably keep the little one warm, but not as warm as the parents. Joeys also eat a LOT in the first few weeks, so I would wait until the little one is about 1 month OOP to start bra training. That's usually when I start. thumb

But that's just my personal opinion. Hopefully you'll get some more answers before too long... wink

You can start handling the joey now, as long as it doesn't stress out the parents. Here is a chart that Suz/sugarglidersuz posted with recommended times.

I tried looking for the post, but here is a "reference guide" for joeys. So whoever had posted it to me, when I asked, I'm sorry I can't remember, but I know this guide helped me, and I wanted to share.

This was copied from the post, but I'm hand typing it since I can't find it again.

"You can handle the joeys several times throughout the day as long as it does not appear to be stressing the parents out at all. Here's a good timeline reference.

1st week, hold them for 5-10 minutes at a time, within sight of the parents

2nd week, hold them for 10-15 minutes at a time, with about 5 minutes away from the parents

3rd week, hold them for about 15-20 minutes at a time, away from the parents for most of the time.

4th week, hold them for about 20-30 minutes at a time, away from the parents entire time.

5th week, hold them for 30-45 minutes away from parents

6th week, hold them for 45-60 minutes, away from parents

7th week hold them for 60-90 minutes, away from parents

8th week, hold them for 90-120 minutes, away from parents

9th week, if not yet fully weaned, carry them with you most of the day if possible. "
