Here's a few things I did when we built my glider room: - Made the floor/walls a washable surface
- Installed a light fixture that's flush against the ceiling (so they can't crawl into it)
- Put plugs into the electrical outlets (made for baby safety)
- Added a screen door for ventilation/visibility
Add lots of toys they can play with (here are some of what I have in my room) - I put fleece on the walls so they can climb
- Fleece on the floor to soften those "splats" when they jump down
 - Vines (either fleece or plastic greenery) for climbing
- Floor toys (baby toys work great)
- Wheel
- Sugar Maple Tree (so they can jump from branch to branch just like in the wild)
- Foraging toys so they can run around and find treats

can you elaborate more on those? what did you use to make the walls/floor washable? what kind of light fixture did you use? how much fleece did you use for the floors?

can you elaborate more on those? what did you use to make the walls/floor washable? what kind of light fixture did you use? how much fleece did you use for the floors? The walls are paneling; you can't saturate them, but you can wipe them down. The floor is concrete, so we used the garage floor paint. We made sure it was dry and all odor gone before we put the gliders in there. This is a "heavy duty" paint that is made to withstand a lot of abuse, so I feel that it is safe. The light fixture is a flush mount 4' fluorescent light that we got from Lowe's. It is wired in so there are no electrical cords hanging for the gliders to get hurt on. There are no gaps between the ceiling and the fixture for the glider to get under/in. I'm not sure what brand it is, just remember that it was more expensive than most of the others. The amount of fleece you would use to cover the floor would depend on the size of your room. I just have a single layer of fleece laying on the floor. It's not attached, just laying there, so I just pick it up and wash it after playtime is over!

I love what you have done with your room Shelly! I love the idea of a screen door. I have screens on the windows for ventilation, and the gliders love it, it's their first stop in the glider room, then they open their patagiums and enjoys some fresh air on their tummies. My floor is tiled, and cleans easily, the light is closed into the ceiling and has a dimmer switch on it. I also use baby plugs for safety around the plugs. I have a cargo net close to the ceiling, from where I hang fleece vines and plastic vines and toys for them to jump and glide. We have a couch in there for whoever feels lazy and wants to lay down and watch the gliders play, we also recently added a mount in the wall desk for our laptops to keep us busy while they have fun. On the floor I have some of those baby tiles made out of "rubber" with the numbers in for soft landings. Aimee will be sending me mesh to put on the walls for them to climb on. And then we have wheels, ball pits, feather toys, land cloth toys, braided ropes and vines, all for them to play on. We have a Hibiscus tree in there, which blooms all the time so they love picking the flowers from that tree. I have a video of the glider room if you want to see it or some pictures, just let me know.

We've also considered using those kid play mats/exercise mats for the floor. Glad to see someone has already used them! As you said, they would make those landings much softer for them. They are very easy to clean, and "lock" together like puzzle pieces. We currently use them for temporary horse stall mats during the week of county fair! (Would buy new ones for the gliders tho!) Yep those are the ones, they work great! (Would buy new ones for the gliders tho!) Phew. Got a little worried as I read it.

Our playroom also has cargo netting across the ceiling with various toys and vines hanging from it. We have hardwood floors which makes cleanup a breeze! The walls are entirely covered in mesh so they have a "speedway" wherever they go - it's fantastic! I've also got a tree in the room for them to climb in and a couch to relax on while they play! Hi Aimee,
I see that you have a braided fleece net in your glider room. Where did you get it from? Did you make it? I was looking for something like that for my tent.
Thanks,

Love these ideas! I have been thinking about turning my office into a glider playroom. We just added a office corner to the glider room this weekend.

we're working on our glider room, and ideas and suggestions are much appreciated one question i do have - if i have a closet door that i think they can get under, what can i put in front of it to block it? also, what do you guys do about blinds? they're not very landing-friendly, lol.

You know those draft stoppers or draft guards? I'd use that for the closet. The blinds... I don't know so much. Horizontal blinds I'd take down and just cover the window with fleece... Hopefully others will give you suggestions if you don't like mine.

Ok i have a random question. One of my gliders absolutely hates when the lights are on. He will not move lol he goes into his corner and hides till the lights are off. Are there certain lights that i can use so its not completely dark but fine with their eyes. Right now i am using the little overhead light on my desk which is ok but i can never get pics because it is beyond dark!! Help!
