Ooh, that does sound nasty. Do let us know what the vet says about the swollen eye pocket.

Dr Thomas said that we should be okay to see her next week if it's still swollen, she thinks if it opens by itself, it won't be any worse then being swollen. She said his eye shouldn't get infected, but to use either contact solution or an eye moisturizer to clean it out if it does. It does look a little less swollen this morning.

Pikachu has been recovering quiet nicely. We switched from oral antibiotic juice to antibiotic injected superworm, and that goes down MUCH faster! He takes the injections like he never new what happened. Most of the swelling is gone, and I'm just waiting to see little fuzzies growing back in on his nose. Hopefully we'll have ti licked this time. we'll see though!

Glad to hear that he's getting better and that most of the swelling is gone.

Thanks for the update. Glad you found a nice way to help the medicine go down.

I tried to scan it, but that didn't work.

Direct Gram Stain: No organisms Seen
Completed Culture Results: ACHROMOBACTOR XYLOSOXIDANS SSP XYLOSOXIDANS - 1+
Anaerobic Results: NONE ISOLATED

SUSEPTABILITY RESULTS:
S=susecptibilty I=Intermediate R=Resistant
Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) expressed in ug/mL
Results with no MIC values were preformed by disc testing.

R: Amikacin Cephalothin Gentamicin Tetracycline Tobramycin

S: Ampicillin Carbenicillin Ceftazideime Ceftiofur Chloramphenicol Ciprofloxacin Enrofloxacin piperacillin Ticarcillin Tribrissen

S-: Augmentin/Clavamox ((not sure why there is a - with this)

Dr Thomas was surprised, because she has never heard of this organism, and is researching into it. She said it was odd that it was suseptible to all the STRONG antibiotics, and that they didn't test the antarobe (clendamycin (sp)) So we will keep on the course of treatments he is on. Shot and Oral as it seems to be working.

I haven't heard of that one, either. (Now I'm gonna have to look it up, lol). It could be a resistant one, hence the stronger antibiotics. Bugs that have developed tolerance to meds, the lesser antibiotics frequently won't work on. Thought I'd mention that Augmentin is actually the name of the people antibiotic, for animals it's Clavamox.

If it is a resistant strain...be sure to keep meds going until all symptoms are gone-my rule of thumb after Riker is minimum 10 days beyond ALL cessation of symptoms. Less than that and it always came back-we've been 5 rounds with him. Plus, if some is left...it will come back even harder to eradicate.

Keep us updated on how your little one is doing, and thank you for the update.

That is what is surprising, Jen. It is resistent to the big meds, but sensitive to the less strong antibiotics. You can google the bug, as Dr T did, but she said some of the info was completely misleading, and she was going to have to delve into it further. Once she finds out, (as we all do our own searching) she'll let me know.
