I am looking to buy 2 gliders and was thinking of 1 boy 1 girl or 2 girls. The place I found seems knowledgable but the boys are already neutered and they said they were 8 weeks out of pouch. So are they yanking my chain or can they be neutered that young? I don't plan on having babies so I'd hate to have a boy and a girl and buy a boy who I think is neutered and then suddenly wake up with a baby in pouch. Is there way to tell if they have been neutered?

As far as I know, a glider cannot be neutered until they are matured and they don't usually mature until they are 4-5 months old. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />

I would ask them which vet did it for them and ask the vet. If they say they did it themselves, you don't want to do business with them or support such an operation.

They can be neutered that young. It is not recommended by most vets but some feel it's fine to do so. My vets says 3-4 months oop.

I thought so. I have not been around baby gliders before but it sounded strange.

I've had males neutered at 7 weeks OOP. My vet goes by weight, not age. Some males I can get neutered really young, others need to wait until they get bigger. We schedule neuterings for 1 week after they reach 50 grams...

I got my two males from a very reputable breeder and they were neutered at 8 weeks oop by a vet that is extremely experienced with sugar gliders.

The problems with neutering that young is 1) most vets don't have the experience to feel comfortable with preforming surgery on that young/small of a glider. 2) it often requires they remove the pom (since most times the testes have not yet dropped into the sack). This is more invasive for the glider. There are some vets that will neuter that young but not many. Peeper is absolutely right in that IF they say they neuter them their selves, you do NOT want to do business with them. Those that self neuter often do so without any pain meds or anesthsia which is cruel and illegal.
