ok so ive been looking to get a glider after christmas.and i foound a post on craigslist. now i know that getting a glider off craigslist isnt always the best way to go but my heart melted. its two males but one she said appears to be blide in both eyes and its tail looks short i sent her an email for pics and i will post them when i get them but i jus need advice on what its like to own a special needs glider and how to handle it before i make any decisions on them.

A shorter tail is not usually an issue. Blindness can be difficult. He will need a cagemate, to keep his hours regular. He can't see to know when the sun is up or down. He'll also need to have his cage items moved not at all or only very rarely, because he will not be able to see the addition of new toys or that the pouch moved to a new corner. You might put in more hammocks than normal, or place things a little lower. You'll know when you see how he interacts with his environment. You need to know how he's been handled as well. He won't be able to see you coming, so he could be a challenge as far as bonding. Normal pouch protective techniques won't mean anything to him - you can't open him up to a world he can't see.

I think with a little support from people here, you'd be able to handle it! What that glider will need most is love, so I think as long as you have patience with him, as long as you are capable of loving him you'll be able to handle it.

If you are willing to put in the time and give them lots of TLC, being with someone who wants to learn to me seems better then being where they are. It will probably be a challenge but in my opinion it would be a labor of love.

You will do just fine with them. Blindness doesn't really slow a glider down. A few cage modifications and care when changing out items in the cage is really all that is needed. The short tail will not be an issue at all. You will be fine, they will be in a loving home - sounds like a win-win to me!!!!

I'm really sorry you can't get them. Maybe tell her you are willing to give her the gas money if she comes halfway?? If that is an option for you. Best of luck getting your gliders. I hope something ends up working out here and you are able to get them.

You never know, if she doesnt find it easy to find a home for a special needs baby, she may get back ahold of you. If not there are alot of great people on here that have babies that need homes.
