Awhile back, I purchased a bucket wheel for a critter I rescued. She recently passed away, but I have her stuff still. I took the bucket wheel in with the kids during tent time and they really seemed to love it! I didn't think they would be able to get a good enough grip on the soft plastic to actually run, but they did just fine!

Does anyone know if there are any hidden suggie dangers to using a bucket wheel? It was safe for the other critter, so I'm guessing it's safe for them. My camera is broken, but here is a pic of a bucket wheel for reference:

I have never seen one before… but it does not have a center bar.. so that is GOOD! .. and does not look like toes or feet can get stuck… looks good to me… my only wonder would be.. can they ‘fling’ themselves out of it? I have seen that with stealths … too with not problem… but just a thought!

Well, I don't plan on keeping it in the cage. I just loved it for tent time. I have blankets down while in the tent so even if they went flying, they would have a pretty soft landing. It just seems so safe and it's so easy to clean between play sessions.

Luna mastered the wheel quickly and was just hopping away! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

No, it's a good thought! The wheel is slick and it really gets spinning!

i have a solid chin wheel that's simular to your bucket wheel.

Cloey has flung herself out of it but i think she does it on purpose... she starts running fast to get up speed then she jumps and grabs onto the side to hold on for dear life! lol.. then she'll "ride" the wheel.. she lets go after a bit, and gets back on it and does it again...

she's such a silly girl

P.S. i attatched a picture of my wheel

It looks safe to me. The comfort wheels seem pretty safe to me also (and I have used them) but they are really noisy! Duncan has a comfort wheel right now because of cage size and plays on it all night but tomorrow he goes into his big boy cage and will have a stealth to play on. Once again, my house will be free from the nightly sound of the comfort wheel!
