I'm just collecting some information. I also have a thread in diets if you are interested. Because it seems that jaw infections are recurrent, I'm trying to pinpoint a real common cause. Most theories are just that. For those of you with gliders that have had lumpy jaw: Do you know if their ancestors may have had it? How many occurances, & when was the last occurance? What colour is your glider? I'll go first: Do you know if their ancestors may have had it?I don't have the background on Pikachu. How many occurances, & when was the last occurance? Currently. As far as I know from the previous owner, only once before, over 6 months ago. What colour is your glider?Pik is a lion or cinnamon, I've seen him labeled as both.

Thanks Monster. I thought I was going to have to dig this out when I get my cultures back.

To reply to your Q's with my guy (Commander Riker): I have no way of knowing his parentage/ancestry. He was from a Glider mill in TX. THEY prob. don't know his parentage or ancestry, for that matter. Riker has had 5 major infections that involved swollen cheek, bulging eye, and overgrooming, and showed up in Xray. On one his symptoms went further (hard sneezes, eye and nasal discharge, swatting at his face). All this in just over 2 years. Infection is diffuse throughout tissues on right side of face/sinus, and a sample cannot be obtained. His last course of meds/infection was: Feb - May, 2006 Riker is a classic grey. Also: the hardest food he eats is a yogurt drop. No nuts, seeds, pellets, or anything else hard (though he was on hard pellets when he very first came to me)-once he started having infections, he didn't even get the occasional peanut (or any other nut) half after that. He ate Darcy's until last July, BML diet since. I'd be happy to talk...I only ask that it's on the board if at all possible, so all can learn.

Jen, with your Riker possibly being an allergy, what allergy do you think it may be? Any unusual food/juice he gets prior, or just an in the air you can't do anything but treat me type of thing?

Airborne...like pollens and dust, etc. We've ruled out foods one by one (my was THAT fun!).

Culture Results: Direct Gram Stain: No organisms Seen Completed Culture Results: ACHROMOBACTOR XYLOSOXIDANS SSP XYLOSOXIDANS - 1+ Anaerobic Results: NONE ISOLATED
It seems that this particular infection was resistant to most of the strong antibiotics, but was suseptable to the weaker ones, such as baytril. We will see how long this treatment will keep the infection gone.
