I've seen some people say they replace a cup of the water with the green juice in HPW, and I've seen some people say they add it to the recipe. Has anyone spoken to the person that made the diet about adding this? If so, what's the proper way to do it? Replace water with it, or add it to the recipe? I picked some up yesterday. I've got a picky eater that loves it, so I'm hoping he'll start eating more once it's added but I want to MAKE SURE to do it properly. Also - garlic is listed on the ingredient list. Isn't that a toxic food?

I believe Peggy is the one who started using this. She would be the one to get the information from, about the way to add it, nutrition, ratios, etc. There are brands without the garlic added. I'm not sure of the names because I don't use the green juice, but someone will be along who does know.

Peggy told me to add it to the mixture and not to replace anything. I found 1 brand of green juice in my area without garlic but now I don't remember the name. Just check the labels if it concerns you. I've been using one with garlic for 6 months and the amount of garlic is so minimal that it has not affected mine.

I have spoke with Peggy and she said I could share this with you. Per Peggy, "feel free to let others know what I am about to tell you, or if they have any questions to please feel free and email me at critterlove@critterlove.com As for the Green Juice, I had started using this quite some time ago (almost two years). When I first started I was taking out a half of cup of honey and replacing it with 1/2 cup of green juice. I have done that for quite some time. However, after reading several different threads, gathering different information, I decided to do a full cup of Odwalla Green Juice and leaving the rest of the recipe the way it was originally written. I have had wonderful results with this." I hope this helps everyone with the confusion.

The Naked brand Green machine does contain garlic, there is NO EVIDENCE that garlic is toxic to gliders. I have been feeding this modified version of HPW for over a year now and my gliders love it and are healthier than ever

For those of us who follow the CA:PH ratio of 2:1, can you ask her what the ratios are when adding the green juice?

The rest of my email from her explains all this. Per Peggy, "Why do I do it? It has proven to be beneficial in my gliders health and coats. Do I know a *written* ratio for this? NOPE...I do not go by what is written on paper. Something may look good on paper, however it doesnt mean it is working properly with the way the gliders are digesting and absorbing the minerals and calcium they need. That is why I stress over and over, if someone is going to *create* a diet, it is a MUST that the gliders have blood work done. Not only in the beginning when all the changes are sure to show, but also throughout the gliders lives. This way if there is ever ANY reason for concern, lets say about the Ca:P ratios, or the AST/ALT levels (liver function)being off, it will show in a simple blood panel and the *creator* can make the people who use the diet aware of the concerns and/or problems that may be going on. I hope I have been able to clear some of this up for you. And if you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me again. Thanks again for the email," I believe Peggy is well respected in the glider communtiy and I know she has done tons of research and still researching to improve the lives of all sugar gliders. She has my respect always. Hope this helps clear up some things with all the confusion.

Thanks to everyone who responded!
I used up the last of the HPW I had made last night and I'm making a new batch tonight with the green juice.
I've never had a health problem with my guys, but if this could make them even healthier I'm all for it!

One more quick question:
Do you still feed them 1 tsp.? (tablespoon for 2 gliders) Or do you feed them a bit more to account for the HPW mix being watered down with the green juice?

Peggy has indeed increased the amount to 1 Tablespoon. She asks that I please assure everyone that as soon as her final testing is complete, she will make it public for all to view her diet methods.

I have seen the recipe written where the green juice does replace 1/2 the water (so 1 cup juice and 1 cup water). I would think this would prevent the "watering down" of the diet without actually altering the diet.

Maybe that's been answered, but would anybody mind explaining?

I just started using Adri's modified HPW recipe a couple weeks ago and my gliders love it! I have 1/2 raised one joey on it (he was on the reg HPW for the first few weeks) so I'm not sure if it's the addition but he gained more weight than his sister's. He was 51 grams before he left for his new home. His mom is pregnant again and this baby looks larger than her other babies looked in the pouch. Maybe I'm being optimistic but looks like it's making a diff. already. Only downside....I am spending more money because now I like to drink the naked juice.

Is there any concern over the sugar (28 mg) content? Seems kinda high to me considering the amount of sugar already in the honey.
I'm also confused as to if the juice is to replace a portion of honey (which I understand since there is a lot of sugar in honey) or if it's to replace a portion of water (which I don't get as water helps promote hydration and is completely healthy on it's own).

The sugar in Green Machine is natural sugar that you would naturally find in any fruit. Naked does not add sugars. We use it to replace a cup of water. There is still plenty of water in a fruit juice.

Ok. Understood on the sugars aspect. Thanks for explaining that! Now.. Why not replace a portion of the honey instead? It just seems to make more sense (to me anyway) to replace part of the honey to decrease sugar content, especially since 8 ounces of honey have 256mg of sugar.

I have spoken with Peggy and gathered the following information. Quotes are direct:" When I first started I was taking out a half of cup of honey and replacing it with 1/2 cup of green juice. I have done that for quite some time. However, after reading several different threads gathering different informationI decided to do a full cup of Odwalla Green Juice and leaving the rest of the recipe the way it was originally written. I have had wonderful results with this. In other words, I dont replace anything, the water or the honey." " Do I know a *written* ratio for this? NOPE...I do not go by what is written on paper. Something may look good on paper however it doesn't mean it is working properly with the way the gliders are digesting and absorbing the minerals and calcium they need. That is why I stress over and over if someone is going to *create* a diet it is a MUST that the gliders have blood work done. I have NEVER done things on paper. I will continue to have my gliders tested and those that also feed my diet if they get blood work done we take that in as well." "I have NEVER added any additional calcium into the HPW that is out there being recommended. Having too much calcium in a diet is VERY dangerous. It can lead to crystals in the urine and/or kidney stones which can and has lead to SMing gliders." "All I can tell you about the ratios, is that the gliders that have been tested, their CA:P ratios have always come back right where they should be." "I dont replace anything. I just add 1 cup to the recipe as it is written." "What was my motivating factor for adding it? Everyone was concerned about the gliders not eating their fruits." "I have been using it for almost two years now and just recently started telling people publicly. Why? Because I like to make sure the gliders I am using it on are doing fine on it as well. I like to have the proper testing done." "Have I changed the amount? Yes, I have. I have increased my servings to 1T of HPW a night. " "I have been working on improving the HPW for quite some time now and once the testing phase is over I will share with all my new diet layout." These quotes are from 2 emails from Peggy in response to my initial email to her as well as my response to her (first) response. If there are more questions, I'm happy to ask them, or you can and share the answers here. Thanks.

I found it at the local grocery store here. It was in the produce department near where the refrigerated salad dressing and Pom juice is.
Target had it as well, but it was much more expensive. Walmart here didn't have it at all.
I got the Naked brand.

A word of experience...some gliders will prefer the Naked brand above all others...if you smell it you will see why I had a glider lose 20 grams because she refused the Odwalla brand. Taste makes a difference to some.

The green juice I add is "Green Goodness". You can find it in the refrigerated section at Wal-Mart. It's made by Boathouse. I include 1/2 cup in ADDITION to the water. My gliders clean their plates every night. It does have a touch of garlic, but as been previously mentioned it's not enough to even be concerned over.
