My joeys were oop on Mom's day and now we are working on our 4th week oop. Is it ok to take just the joeys in my sissy pouch without the parents if I have supplies for them for the day to the park with family and friends? I have been taking them out of the cage and handling them almost eveynight without the parents already. Or should I take the parents with me also since we are planning on being out most of the day?

I am not sure 100%, but I would think that at that age, they are still nursing too often to go that long away from mom and dad, but if I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me!

Yes they are still nursing at that age. To take them away from mom would leave them hungry and mom would be in pain from not being able to nurse. I don't take mine on day trips until they are 8 weeks oop. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Take the parents with you. The joeys are too young to be away from the parents for a day at this point in time. Like CarrieT said, 8 weeks OOP is a good age to take the joeys with you all day.

At 4 weeks oop, they are most likey nursing every 2-4 hours. If mom is building up milk with no way to express it (the joeys nursing) she could develope mastitis. This is painful and could cause her to reject the joeys. It is best to either take the parents with you too or leave the joeys home.

At 4 weeks, I never keep the joeys away from mom for more then an hour at a time (usually less). At 6 weeks, about 2 hours. By the time they are 8 weeks, day trips are usually just fine.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.
