Adri, is Naked Green Machine at Wal-Mart do you know? And is it in the cold section? I have some super picky gliders and want to get the best tasting so I'm going to try the Naked brand 1st. But I think I may use it to blend with the spaghetti & butternut squash they refuse grrrrrr. What about shelf life on these? I thought about checking Sam's Club. I get honey there anyway as it is much cheaper buying in bulk. Surely we can use the nutritional info on the back to figure out it's ratio I went shopping for this today and I couldn't find it at Wal-Mart at all. They had every flavor of Naked BUT the green machine. I picked up a single serving of Odwalla to try it. Well, I went to Meijer next and they had the Naked green machine in 2 sizes. It's in the produce section with other specialty drinks (think Acai...). They only had 2 bottles of it but lots of the other flavors so I think it's pretty popular...

I bought the Naked brand at Winn Dixie (I think they're mostly in Florida). The wal-mart I checked didn't have it, but Target did.
Shelf life - mine expires May 6.
Nutritional facts:
2% of calcium RDA is 1,000 mg of calcium a day. So that makes it 20 mg per serving.
It doesn't say how much phosphorus is in it, but on the back it lists the ingredients. One of the ingredients listed is 'chlorella'. It contains .4 grams of this. It contains 895 mg of phosphorus per 100 grams. (358 mg of phosphorus in the whole bottle). The bottle has 2 servings, so around 154 mg of phosphorus.
I'm sure the other ingredients add a bit of phosphorus too, but that's the only one that showed that it contained A LOT of it from my research.
That makes it about 1:8 ish. For the Naked Brand.
I'm wondering if some of the other brands have the same ingredients. Peggy says she feeds Odwalla, so I might look into that on my next batch of HPW.
Really though, I'm not too worried. It's such a small amount of the green juice - and it's spaced out over the entire batch of HPW.
I try to feed high calcium fruits and veggies anyway.
Maybe my math is WAY WAY off. It's quite possible.
IMHO - she's been feeding it for 2 years, and been getting blood tests for her gliders - and has had good results - that's enough for me. I *AM* going to get the same brand she uses the next time, though.

Hey gang,
So over the weekend I put together a batch with the following advice:
Instead of 2 cups of water: 1 3/4 cup of calcium fortified orange juice 1/4 cup of water
It's supposed to make the HPW ratio go to 2:1..
However my poor babies have horrible green diarrhea.. they may like how it tastes but my fears are realized: it's too acidic and too hard on their bodies..
I've been reading the threads and this green juice seems to work WONDERS for everyone else so I'll give it a shot..
INSTEAD of the 2 cups of water.. it's 1 cup green juice 1 cup water CORRECT??
I just want to get it right.. I don't like seeing my poor babies like this..
Thanks, Missy

Contact Peggy for specific questions about any changes in the HPW recipe http://critterlove.com/contact/contact.htmAs for adding the Green Juice - Peggy's current recommendation is to prepare HPW using the usual recipe and ADD 1 cup Odwalla Green Machine Superfood. Increase the per glider portion of the mix to 1 TBS per glider. The green juices bring a wide variety of additional vitamins and minerals to the mixture. They do not however contain enough calcium to increase the ratio. The Green Juices have 20 mg calcium per 8 0z bottle. The amount of phosphorus is not available in the product information on line. There will be at least a small amount of phosphorus. Even if the juice has only 0.5 mg (which would give a 40:1 ratio for the juice) the 20 mg calcium per 8 oz added HPW still gives a 0.98:1 ratio for the complete mix so higher ratio fruits and vegetables are still necessary.

Candy,
Thank you so much for all those details-- that's really sweet of you.
I'll email Peggy right away. Like I said I'm just really really concerned for how they're digesting their food.
Last thing I want is changing the HPW recipe to be better for them when in actuality it's harming them.
