We started supplement feeding him last night and I think his belly was finally full this morning. We are beginning at 4 hours or so in between feedings, and will watch his weight and see if he gains anything. We are hoping he is on the road to recovery. Even though his parents seem a bit distracted, they don't seem to be fully rejecting him. Mom and Dad are still cleaning and keeping him warm. (Most of the time--we caught them both out playing last night while he was in the pouch, we solved that by turning on the light. HA!) We are consistently checking on the Joey, and he always seems to have his head in Mama’s pouch, so we are coming to the conclusion that he is not necessarily getting rejected, she just isn't producing enough milk. I have been doing a lot of behavior research today, and found out that it might have to do with stress, (of course), but also mating. I did catch the two of them mating about 4 days ago,( I guess our boy heard the word neuter, and decided to make the best of the time he had left )… and the timing is consistent with the beginning of our Joey’s downward slide. Could this have slowed her milk production? Is protein the only thing that can help to increase the milk production?
By the way, I want to thank everyone that has been so helpful with our many questions. This is our first and (we thought, until about 4 nights ago) only baby, and everyone has been so great! We truly appreciate it!

You can put some vanilla Ensure in a little feeder in there for her (and daddy too cause he'll want some). So happy to hear your little one is doing better! Keep up the great work

If it did, there would be a major problem in the breeding cycle of gliders in general, because most captive gliders tend to mate within 2-3 weeks of joeys coming oop. To increase milk production, you really need to increase the full diet of the mother, not just the protein. Yes, it is important to make sure the mother is getting at least 33% protein in her diet, but she also needs to get a full, balanced diet, but more of it than when not nursing... HTH

Oh gosh! I didn't mean to give the ensure to the joey! I meant to give it to the momma and extra cause daddy would probably want some too.
