I was wondering what are the pouches made of? I'm pretty good at sewing - thanks to my mom, who's still better. I wanted to try making myself some pouches but I don't know which fabric is better. I like the ones with screens, but is it really a screen or a kinf od plastic, see-through ?

Most pouches are made of Fleece with all the seams hidden. Make sure there are NO strings anywhere whatsoever for a glider to get ahold of. I use fleece inside of the pouches when I make pouches out of regular cotton material or flannel. However, you MUST make sure NO seams can be seen. Many gliders die from getting tangled after pulling a thread and many more lose limbs from getting feet, legs, hands etc. entangled.

I forgot to say that fleece doesn't unravel. Make sure you cut off the selvedge. (sp?)

Fleece is the safest fabric as a pouch liner. For the outside of the pouch you can use either fleece, cotton or flannel.

Like said above try to keep all the seams hidden and make your stitches as small as possible. All pouches should be inspected every day as gliders can dig around trying to make a nest or get comfy and tear fabric or expose threads.

Also, the screen for the windows is pet screen from your local building supply store and it is actually a plastic screen material.

I haven't sewn anything since a project in 7th grade home ec (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), so I buy all of my pouches. But from what I've read, get the no-pill fleece.
