As I read in my other thread Famous wodent wheel fear! there are also risks involved with the Stealth wheel.

I have personally witnessed a glider getting spun around on the outside of the wheel, knocking its head on the bottom of the cage. Now, for those that have the side mount instead. Again, another space issue - there is a very small space between the back of the wheel to the side of the cage. Penny loves to hide behind the wheel but is unfortunately getting so large that if one of the other monkeys jumps on the wheel, she's in danger of being caught. I have tried a couple of things so far to change this and so far, haven't come up with anything that is solid enough so I'm still trying. But my point here is that while we urge people not to buy Wodents, why do we not tell people of the risks of a Stealth?

Please list your Stealth related concerns here.

I hang my stealth wheels from the top of my cages, with baby links. I've never had one fall (of course, I check it daily), never had a glider not be able to get into it, never had an injury, etc.

This is really a cage issue, but when attached to the side of the cage by the sidemount hardware, it is contact with the cage in such a small spot that after awhile it will break the wires. A side mount attachment that spread the weight over a greater distance would be better and keep it from shaking the bars so much and stressing them.

I think I am the only person I know that actually had a tail injury with a Stealth.

There was a glider with a broken neck that was *suspected* to have been caused by riding the out-side of the Stealth (not my glider).

However, my Snarf is missing the end 1/4" of his tail due to a total freak accident. It was caught in that tiny space between the wheel and the bearings - when his cage-mate was running in the wheel - and the end of his tail was pinched, and ultimately became necrotic.

At first, I didn't even mention it to Anita, because I believe it was such a freak accident it doesn't really warrant general concern.

Remember, accidents can ALWAYS happen. You can take every precaution possible, and still a freak accident will occur.

With my youngest son, when he was an infant, I used to say I could put him in a padded, sterilized room and he'd find a way to hurt himself. I think that Snarf is the glider equivalent of that. It doesn't mean something is wrong with the wheel, or the cage, or ... any of that.

I like the upside down idea that is cool, very innovative!

I think it would attach fine, but, it would bring the wheel closer to the top of the cage just like sitting it on the bottom. Same head-room clearance issue, just at the top of the wheel instead of the bottom.

If one used the longer zip ties and didn't fasten them all the way then they could be used in a similar fashion. If the extra tail of the tie was trimmed too closely for a glider to grab it would prevent accidental tightening. Two of the shorter ties could be connected to each other similarly and may be slightly more stable due to the shape it would make.

Such a good idea!!!! I am trying to decide what kind of wheel to order for my new babies and I know not to order whodent wheel but I wasn't sure on the other two which one was better. I almost ordered the stealth but waiting to read more!
