I am moments away from purchasing hpw complete and I understand you can mix it, then freeze it. What do I do with The frozen cube of hpw? Do I microwave it? Do I thaw it out for a few hours? Do I just throw the cube in the cage and they start licking it? I like to feed my gliders in the morning, and put fresh fruits in the cage before I go to sleep.

Well first, you need to feed them at night. They're nocturnal and their instinct to eat their dinner is at night, not in the morning. The food needs to be in the cage half an hour before they wake up. I can guarantee they're very hungry at night and wondering where the food is. ALL of their dinner, the staple (HPW Complete), fruits and veggies all need to be in the cage for the entire night, again half an hour before they wake up. Please feed them at night, their natural feeding time is not during the day...

As for thr Complete, you can take it out and let it thaw or microwave it. I just make fresh single servings everynight, which is much easier for me than trying to defrost it....

Ok I will feed them at night. What an easy way to mix a single serving? The blender seems a bit overkill. Can I just mix it by hand with a spoon or something?

For 2 gliders, one night's serving would be

- 1 tablespoon of HPW Complete powder
- 2 tablespoons warm water

I put mine in a sports bottle and shake it up really well until everything is dissolved. It's so simple and for me, much easier than trying to get it frozen out of the ice cube tray and letting it defrost....

I'd like to say a couple of things here. First of all, Jess is correct that your gliders need to eat in the evenings. They just cannot wait until daytime, this will change the natural order of too many things. However, you don't have to have their food out a half hour before they wake up. If you have food aggressive gliders, that's a different story and it's really a must, along with having several feeding stations (which you should have anyway). I have never, ever made a point of having food out for my gliders before they wake up. I will say that by NOT doing that, it serves me well because my gliders have never been demanding when it comes to getting their food and there is no "expected" feeding time. Sometimes it's at 10:30 pm, sometimes it's at midnight - but no matter when it is, if they're awake when I feed them, they just happily say hello to me and then trod over to their food to enjoy a little snack. Enjoy feeding them, don't make it a chore or overthink it so that you have a regimen down to the science.

Now, to the cube question. You can pop the cube into their feeding dish(es) and stick it in the cage. It's not absolutely necessary to thaw the cube before feeding, it'll do that on its own. If I don't get home until later in the evening and it's time to feed my monkeys, I put their cubes into their dishes and send it on its way. If I'm home, I generally take the cube out while I'm cutting up their fruit or veggie for the night and when I'm ready to put it in the cage, it's thawed. But, frozen is fine..it'll thaw as it's in the cage. smile

Good job of clarifying Aimee smile I too just put their cube in there frozen and let it thaw. If I'm home I'll let it thaw a little bit while dishing up the other food.

Same here. Sometimes I think we make it too hard on ourselves, relax, like Aimee said, enjoy feeding time, it's supposed to be fun. thumb

I am not sure...I am sure someone will correct me, but wouldnt putting it in the microwave destroy some of the beneficial properties of the honey. Many of us use raw for the benefits, but then pop it in the microwave?

The HPW Complete does take longer to thaw than the regular HPW, so I often put it out for them when it's still frozen, but they're smart lil buggers and I'm not worried about them doing any harm to themselves with it. If I were that careful I'd have never given my human kids popsicles when they were small, and they loved popsicles wink !

I make single servings fresh everynight because my gliders won't touch it. So, for 2 gliders, it's 1 Tablespoon of powder and 2 Tablespoons of water. It still only takes me about 2 minutes to mix up, but mine like it much better this way....

I nuke their dinner if it's still frozen and the time it takes to do this should have zero adverse affects on nutritional values.

Maybe these are silly questions, but I have a few.
I am really new to this diet stuff. I had just been giving pellets with some fruits every once in a while.

Do you guys mix the HPW up with the vegetables and fruit or do you put them in the cage seperately? Or are you even supplimenting the HPW with anything at all?

If you are giving fruits and veggies, are you blending that with the HPW complete?

Has anyone ever blended up the fruits and veggies with the HPW complete and froze all three in the cube trays?

I keep HPW separate from the veggies and fruit, and I'm planning to do the same with HPW Complete. I know some people make fruit smoothies and veggie ones that they freeze in separate ice trays, instead of doing fresh stuff all the time.

I have bi-compartmental feeding dishes that hang on the cage sides. I put a cube of complete in one side and the frozen fruits and veggies in the other side. I put the food out with enough time for everything to thaw enough to eat - but not so long that it gets room temp or really warm before they start to eat it. As for mixing, I mix ahead of time and freeze in ice cube trays then pop out after freezing and store in ziploc baggies.

Mine love the HPW either frozen or thawed - and they aren't demanding with their feeding times either. I spoil them so they spoil me, lol! I do set out the fruits or veggies an hour before feeding time so those will be thoroughly thawed, but I put the HPW in the cage frozen since it thaws so quickly. By the time they wake up and start hopping around, it's nearly thawed or at least slushy.

I chop up my fruits and veggies and freeze them in ice cube trays they same way I freeze up the HPW. I pop out one cube of HPW and one cube of either fruits or veggies each night and we're good to go. I've never blended the fruits or veggies into the HPW and I doubt I would since my guys eat it well seperate. But I have heard of it being done if one has a picky eater...

And the HPW DOES need to be supplimented with a variety of fruits and veggies - including HPW plus and HPW complete...

Is your HPW Complete really liquidy or more pasty when it's first made? I'm trying to figure out whether I added too much water. Lowe wasn't really a fan, so I'll try giving her a frozen serving tonight!

The Complete is very watery once mixed. It freezes very hard so it's much easier to freeze them in cubes.

1 tablespoon per glider of the finished product right? Or is it teaspoon?

Jess was explaining how much to MIX for 2 gliders. Once it's mixed, then you FEED 1 Tbsp. per glider of the Complete. thumb
