my boyfriend and i have been trying to have our sugar gliders have babies and the last two litters died in the same way! The first would crawl out of bed and get to cold to warm back up and the parents wouldn't take it back aand the second was killed by the parents. We decided to try one more time befroe fixing them and last night they were ignoring one baby and we tried to get them to take it back but this morning they had biten its head and killed it. I have been trying to contact my seller but she is so hard to get a hold of please help? do i need to hand feed the babies?

I'm sorry that you had to go through that. Some gliders are just not meant to be parents. I would neuter the male rather than put them or yourself through that again.

[:"green"]I agree with GizmosGal, it doesn't sound like your gliders will be successful parents. I would strongly recommend having the male neutered.

If you continue to try to breed them, you should look into WHY they are rejecting their joeys. 1) Are they in a stressful situation at all? Cats? Dogs? Birds in the house? Near an open window? In a high traffic area? Around little children regularly? 2) What diet are they on? If the mother is not getting enough of the proper nutrients, she won't be able to produce enough milk & will reject the joeys.

If the joeys get rejected again, you could try hand-feeding the joey as soon as you see signs of rejection (joey getting cold and/or out of nest, as you've already found before). Hand-raising is very difficult to do & is not always successful. For more info, you can read Hand Raising A Joey.

I'm so sorry this is your first official post, but welcome to GliderCENTRAL!

You've been given great questions to think over, as well as a great link should you find yourself in that situation in the future. If they are on a healthy diet and not in a stressful environment, then it really is time to neuter the male. It is true that some gliders just aren't meant to be parents.

Are you saying they still have one joey left? If so then you probably should step in with hand raising the joey. They have repeated their parent process each time and the chances of the last joey not making it are high.

here's a site- check it out and see if your upto raising th joey yourself- http://www.suzsugargliders.com/handraisingajoey.htm

How tragic! I am so sorry you had to go through this. It's a sad case when sugar gliders don't become the parents we might want them to be. What would probably be best in this case is what has already been suggested. I would have the male nuetered and just love them the way they are.

If the wee ones become in a weaken state and cold and dehydrated.....there are some things you can do.

THere is a link at the top of this forum as to How to supplement feed baby joeys. Suggest you read it and then get the necessary supplies from a vet tomorrow. They even carry the Espalic Puppy Mikl replacer. Purchase about six 1cc syringes to feed with. Purchase a French Cather size is #5. Also get some Dfw which is Dextrose 5% in Noral Saline. Have the vet show you how to rehydrated a dehydrated baby.

Babies when cold and dehydrated are unable to drink. Keep the babies warm by placing them in a bonding pouch
ith a small fliece and then stick them down your shirt to keep the baby warm and also from your body heat.

Babies at this state will need to be fed every two hours around the clock through three weeks or so. From there... every three to four hours.

If you need further help with the little one... send me an email. []JudithHausmann@msn.com[/]

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your joeys from both litters. Al and Jaz, our lion gliders, lost their first 3 joeys not long ago. We tried to save them, but it was just too much. I feel that the problem was too much stress on the mother (she was shipped to me and then we had to move to a new home all during one pregnancy). She is pregnant again and seems to be doing better, there is however, no stress now. Is there anything that could be causing extra stess on the mother? Hope everything goes better for you!
