I am just curious...what kind of treats do you give your gliders? I am mostly looking for foraging ideas. My girls LOVE licky treats and can't get enough of their morning mealworms, but they don't seem interested in ANY of the treats that I hide in their cage at night. So far I have tried yogies, dried papya, pine nuts, fruit loops. They find them, because they are all over the cage floor in the morning, but they don't eat them. :/

I have them on the HPW diet, and they are eating that very well. Just curious as to why they don't seem interested in any of the treats that I have hidden. They also don't seem interested in them if I offer from my hand either. (they always take the licky treats and mealies though)

Hello wave... I try not to use to many treats just because they will tend to eat their treats instead of their food and veggies/fruits. Just try putting some of the veggies and fruits throughout the cage in foraging cups and allow them to find their food instead of using treats.

Although you must give them mealies!! Mine LOVE Mealies!! mlove

I really am not sure the answer to this...my Dexter just now started liking mealies but Rita won't touch them or any other treat. She strictly loves her HPW and fruits and veggies... but I was wondering if fruit loops are safe? I noticed you said you tried that but I wasn't sure if they were allowed to have those. My babies would probably love them

I usually don't offer treats at night because I worry that they won't eat their veggies, fruits, and HPW. You could hide veggies or fruits for them. Mine go bananas for this, trying to opening treasure chests or foraging in cups and bowls. It's a lot of fun!

I have only offered the fruit loops a couple of times so far. The lady I bought them from said that she gives them to hers once in a while, not too often though because they are fattening. smile
Yeah, was thinking about hiding fruits and veggies instead of treats. I hid some apple pieces tonight instead of treats. :)I don't have any treasure boxes yet, but I have easter eggs that I hide stuff in, and foraging cups. They find them, just don't eat them. lol I find all their treats on the cage floor every morning.
Not really complaining that they aren't eating their treats...it is better they eat their HPW. Just find it odd i guess that they don't bother with the treats. smile

Oh, yes....Mealies are a must, I have found. My girls won't go to bed until they get theirs in the morning. And if I am not fast enough handing them out, they will try to take them away from the other. Would not think of depriving them of the mealies. lol

Mine didn't go crazy over eggs as much when I switched them to hpw; I imagine because they are getting more protein needs met. Mine love oranges (I usually attach it to the side of the cage somewhere I think they havent gone recently ( I use a clean paper clip with edges on outside of cage to attach it; I feed it through the peel). I use to give them bugs n' berries as foraging treats cause they love it but I cant seem to find where my tub went recently. Things that I wouldnt give them as part of dinner I use very little of. Ex: I only hide 2 yogies, or 2 mealworms, or 2 sunflower seeds- usually not in the same night... I avoid mealworms so I can give them to them in the morning before I leave for school... I noticed they eat their fruits and veggies better if they think they have found something- hide peas around the cage and they think its gold, while when I put it in their bowl they wont touch them

Many times I use fruit/veggies that are a part of the diet as foraging treats. So serve the fruits/veggies portions in foraging cups and less in just a dish.

I agree with what's been said regarding placing their fruits/veggies for the evening in different areas in the cage.

I hide some of their fruits/veggies throughout the cage and do different food presentations to keep it exciting for them. wink As for treats, we only give mealies in the mornings, and occasionally treats during daytime. Treats include pomegranate, dried cranberries or nuts usually.

Here are a few ideas for you:

Blueberries wrapped in Bok Choi leaves

What do you use for the skewers? Love the grape idea and I did steal the melon swing! That was a riot to watch!
I need some of those plastic clips and such--where do you find these?
Thanks!

You can just use small straws (even coffee straws work) for the skewers.

Great Ideas Liezl!!

I, too, stole the idea of the watermelon swing - OMG they went nuts!!

I also bought a bird feeder used for holding the millet spray - It has three holes on each side and five on the front. I put yogurt filled straws, asparagus sticks, etc in there...then watch the fun as they pull it all out! smile

roflmao roflmao Steal away if it makes your babies happy. wink Yep, they sure love it.

I use straws for the skewers, you can even use cocktail sticks as long as there are no sharp edges. thumb I seriously can't remember where I ordered the plastic clips, too long ago, sorry. You should find them at some of our vendors who sells toy parts.
