I felt it was important to mention some safety concerns with fabrics and such.

Most fabric is treated with chemicals to protect it during shipping. Formaldehyde being the most common.

Please be sure to wash all fabrics before you use them to make pouches or toys. This not only removes the chemicals, but also lets you know if the fabric has a fray or shed problem.

To customers: if your vendor doesnt mention they wash their fabrics (Ido smile ), please wash toys and pouches before using.
Flannel specifically needs some special care when being used inside cages. Flannel is not a good choice for vines and toys as it does fray a lot. It is ok to use on cage pouches as long as all edges are hemmed correctly.

With ALL fabrics in the cage there will be some risk. Be sure to keep those nails trimmed correctly will help to minimize it. Small tight stitches and proper sewing techniques help as well.

If there is anything other than a straight, tight stitch on that pouch, Don't use it! It can be very dangerous!

Not only is the fabric treated with it, it is shipped with it. This is what makes our (vendors) hands dry when we sew with it without washing. It dulls scissors, needles and rotary blades.

Great post! clap

Also, check your gliders as often as you can! Just last night I found one of my gliders with her toe stuck in a pouch, and it wasn't even on a seam, but rather just on the fleece! Scary stuff but I got her free quite easily. I'm not sure how she did it but I'm glad I went in to check them one more time before going to bed.

Great post Jill Marie, even though I'm not a vendor and know nothing about sewing lol!
