As long as its not raw or unfiltered, I'd imagine it would be fine. Does it specify whether it meets those requirements?

I buy it and use it. Here's how I feel about it, it has a different taste to be sure. But I have received bottles that are sweeter than others. A few had a noticeable almost bitter after taste.

A for the gliders...I use a mix of euc honey and acacia honey in my HPW. If I give them a sample of each, they will go for the acacia honey first. But to be honest, they really are not honey lovers. One lick and they are done.

I dont think it is "necessary" to use it, but I like to. Since they do live on euc and varieties of acacia gums in the wild, I like to think that the honey from those sources has something in it that is good for them.

I did try manuka honey with them, they made such a face! and wouldnt touch it, then I tasted it and knew why! NEVER thought I would meet a honey I didnt like. Great for wounds, but not for my tea!

You will find that difference in taste and sweetness will vary depending on season and species/percentage of what eucalyptus blossoms the bees gathered from. I was at the market this morning and they have an entire stall that sells only honey and honey products...I stopped counting after 8 different species of eucalyptus honey available(then there was rainforest, acacia, tea tree and other native honeys).Happy to supply a list if you are interested. Some are mild, some are sweet, some are really strong and dark and some are bitter. Interestingly enough, all this factors in the GI & nutritional values of each honey and it does vary considerably depending on type.

I get my honey locally from a large bee keeper who collects a myriad of different types of honey. He sells me a rich dark blend of mixed eucs from our local bushland where wild gliders live. The gliders love it and I get 7 kgs of the freshest, best honey delivered to my door for under $US20.00. I am very lucky especially when I was paying that for 2.5kgs for regular blend honey.

For years I was putting locally made powdered honey in the glider meatloaf I make but it really pales in comparison to the real product. Nutritionally it just doesn't come close to the levels of the real thing even though it's locally made rather than the usual awful powdered honey produced in Asia for the world market. I wouldn't touch that even if it was given to me. It is poor grade and diluted with fillers. Now I am using the fresh honey in my meatloaf too and it's a fight over what is more popular... artificial nectar mix or the meatloaf!

It's part of the Healesville sanctuary diet. They use ecopet pet loaf. I just make my own instead as I found most of my gliders simply didn't like the commercial loaf.

Totally off topic now so I will make it short & sweet smile

Most diets use spawns of the artificial nectar mix from the Healesville Sanctuary diet, and that nectar mix is the the main component of their whole diet. With some fruit and veg and a little chicken, mealworms etc their diet is complete.

Healesville Sanctuary does it a little different. It has more essential components to the diet & the nectar mix is only one of these. My own diet is based off this but I have adjusted it with my vet's* approval to suit my situation...after all I am not a zoo with thousands of animals to feed each night (though it feels like it) so I can be more flexible and don't have to streamline. Meatloaf is served most nights in lieu of the fly pupae so that's why it's important to my diet.

Basically it's a mix of cooked meats, various grains, egg, grated veg, fruit & most important native plant parts (my secret herbs and spices grin). The amounts and contents vary seasonally. Depending I could be adding honey or pollen or Wombaroo HPS or even sustagen.

It works very well for me.

* My vet has worked at many zoos including Healesville Sanctuary and she is a published author on nutrition so I value her input.

Eucalyptus honey is avaiable in the US. I believe it is sourced from Western Australia and its mostly jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) which is native to south western Western Australia. The interesting fact is there are no wild gliders in that area of Australia at all!!
