Thanks for posting this.. I didn't even think to. I guess I can be thankful that none of this happens near me. I think OAAO already knows about this but I will check to make sure. When I get updates I can let you all know.

Here's an update: Committee Formed To Deal With Exotic Animals
Quote:
An oversight committee has been formed to see to what, if any, requirements Crawford County residents owning exotic or dangerous animals must follow. These include possible restrictions based on animal size; a list of exotic animals and their location; fee structure for permits; application; implementing countywide enforcement of any resolution passed by county commissioners; and the procedure for Humane Society investigations.

From that same article:
Quote:
16 members of the whole committee discussed areas of research the sub-committee should look into when it meets at 1 p.m. Nov. 13. These include possible restrictions based on animal size; a list of exotic animals and their location; fee structure for permits; application; implementing countywide enforcement of any resolution passed by county commissioners; and the procedure for Humane Society investigations.

Has anyone heard what was decided at that November 13th meeting?

Yet another update. This article is dated December 6, 2003: Animal committee has more questions
Quote:
Crawford County commissioners don't have the authority to enact laws so any regulation of exotic animals must be done through either the Ohio Department of Natural Resources or the Department of Health, Commissioner Ron Hoeft said. Crawford County Humane Society director Harry Wells said if regulations are enacted, his agency is willing to respond to exotic animal complaints and, if necessary bring charges, using the sheriff's office if necessary. If the state would allow that to happen, that would be the answer, Hoeft said. The Ohio Department of Health would have to OK the move.
