Wodent Wheels and duct tape? #114714

I remember seeing a pet show awhile back and one of the things they went over was wheel safety. It said that if you needed to adapt wire wheels you could use duct tape. He said some other things about the tape but I really can't remember. Anyway, my situation is: I put my wodent wheels at the bottom of the cage and they always end up lopsided in the morning cause the base slips inbetween the wire floor and gets caught. My question? Do you think I could duct tape the base so that it's all one big piece; too big to get caught in the wire floor? I hope that makes sense, heh.
Thanks! ^^

I use zip ties to secure it to the side of the cage. It used to end up everywhere when I had it on the bottom. Now that I have a bigger cage, I've put it up higher, so for safety sake, I zip tied it to the cage. They are cheap, so you can just cut them when you need to clean it or move it.
Just to add, duct tape is kind of a pain. Say you have to clean it or change it, it's just going to leave a sticky mess on your wodent wheel. Besides, who knows what's in the sticky stuff? I could see my glider chewing it to shreds--you should see him when he gets ahold of a small piece of his cage liner...

I use metal clips from a hardware store. They are the same ones used on the wodent wheel itself, only bigger. That way I just pull the wheel out to wash it and reuse the clips. I forget the name of the clips, but they are the same as the one keeping the wheel on the bar.
Hope that helps!

Yup Zip ties are your best friend. The only problem I would have with using duct tape is that they could chew on it and you don't know how the glues will affect them . Really anything that goes in a cage has to be safe if they decide to chew on it, it's always best to be safe.

The zip ties will work great. All you have to do is snip them open when you need to move the wheel

Zip tie it! We use zip ties on tons of stuff in our cages, including cage assembly!

please remember duct tape has chemicals used to remove warts. zip ties are the best...the clip things are called cotter pins I havent tried them since I have one baby that when her wheel needs washed she takes the clip of and unassembles her wheel for me. most obnoxious noise you ever heard enough to wake the dead.
Use zip ties the can be secured tight enough to hold th ewheel in place and cut right off at the end so there is nothing hanging out to encourage a glider to chew.

Side thought - if you go to a harware store look for re-usable zip ties - they only cost a few pennies more and they are easy to slip on and off and can be cut down...
