Hi,
I live in New jersey, near PA, and when I was looking for breeders in my area I found out there illegal in PA. I looked into it, it's pretty confusing. It says you must have a permit to own a glider through google, but PA Laws itself don't have anything on the topic? It says wildlife is restricted and you can not have possesion of wildlife without a permit, yet I don't consider gliders to be "wildlife" but just exotic pets. They've been pets for many years now... I don't really understand. Can anyone here clarify the laws in PA? Do you have to have a permit or something? Since my parents found a house there and Im getting my gliders in 2 weeks so yeah I'm worried ;/. They said theres a slight chance of them taking it that we probably won't move, but theres a 10% chance we do. So can anyone help? Or tell me if theres a way of getting a permit or something so I'll be ready?

You will not be able to obtain a permit for gliders in PA. While they say that you can have these animals with a permit, what they don't say is that they just plain don't hand out those permits, making them illegal. PA is VERY strict in their rules about gliders and WILL make you get rid of them. I know of one case in particular where the authorities actually met at the state line to make sure the gliders did, in fact, change hands and leave the state. In this case, they were lucky as they were allowed to be rehomed. They do have the right to confiscate your gliders from you.

Alright, my family won't be moving anytime soon. I'll convince them.

If there is a possibility of your family moving to PA at all (not just soon), I would not risk owning gliders. Gliders are long lived, please consider their future and make sure your parents are absolutely settled where they are (or at least not planning on moving) before getting your gliders.

This is GREAT advice. I know that you're planning on getting them for your birthday but Gretchen makes a fantastic point. Gliders can live 12-15 years and they bond greatly with their owner. Having to rehome them can be a struggle, for both owner and glider. It's terribly stressful on them.
