Ok which is the "better" way to go with mealies? The feeding them part isn't a big deal I can touch either one but which one would be better to last longer I guess. The guy at the pet store said they turn into bugs after about a week if you get live one's but wouldn't the gliders like them better if they were alive. The gliders I'm wanting to get haven't had mealies much so there isn't a preference yet.

A week?
Hmmm. I wish I could get mealies like that. Turn to bugs so quickly, that's some pet store......

You can store the live ones in the refrigerator, and they will go into stasis. Which is when their system slows and they do not morph as fast, if not at all. But you will have to take them out every week to hydrate them and allow them to munch for half the day, to a few hours.... (I use romaine lettuce and a mixed oat bran and oat cereal bedding... some others feed various veggies and just oats "old fashioned' kind not instant)

I don't feed my suggies the canned or freeze dried, but I have in the past, my suggies liked them both ok-a-ay, but not as much as the "fresh kill", lol!

Oh and for your general information the life cycle stages of the Darkling Beetle are (Next time you go to that pet store, you can tell them a thing or two, heheh!):

Egg: 7-14 days
Larvae: 30-90 days
Pupae: 10-20 days
Beetle Adult: 5-10 days

But just know that there are exceptions to this rule, in the proper environment (Warmer), I see the process speed up and in a (cooler) environment, I see it slows....

Edited to add: I applaud you for doing such indept research, you will be an excellent suggie slave!!

Mine seem to enjoy the live ones the best and they are probably the best for them. I have never had mine turn into bugs. The freeze dried ones we like as well! I give these as treats. They also love the ZooMeds Can O' Worms! Either the can of worms or the live ones is it what I would pick. The freeze dried ones are nice for handfeeding treats. This is just my opinion though. Hope this helps!
