I work overnights 5 nights a week and have a second job too. Generally I work 3pm-8pm and then 11pm to 8am. Sometimes start and end times change.
I was thinking of bonding with them during the day (them in a sleeping/bonding pouch) from 30 minutes after I get home and have them on me for about 2 hours. We have tent time every night from 10pm to 11 or 11:30pm, but my schedule has changed this week and tent time is going to have to be moved or cut WAY short. So I was thinking of waking them up 30 minutes to an hour earlier for tent time or having tent time when I get home in the morning.
My biggest fear is that they aren't going to adapt well to the changes.
Would this be a good schedule to keep them on (even though it would vary sometimes) or should I try to stick to what we have now?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, and if you're off your normal routine for just this week, I wouldn't try to transition them to something different. Just spend time with them as you can - it isn't going to hurt them - they don't HAVE to have tent time every night. smile

I'm not sure if it's going to be for just the week or permanent is the thing. Plus I feel horrible when they don't get tent time. They so love to play.

If it's permanent, then yes, you can slowly start to transition them to get up earlier. I guess my point was more that they don't HAVE to have tent time every night and that there isn't a "set" amount of time that you need to play with them or handle them. They need attention, yes...but it's okay if that time is cut back a bit.

That makes me feel a little better, I'm going to talk to them at work about getting my schedule set so that I can get and keep them on a permanent schedule, but that could take a while.

Some animals (dogs come to mind) thrive on schedules, but I don't think suggies necessarily do. Do they enjoy having constants in their life? Yes, of course. But if the important things--their owner, their home, their food, their buddy/mate--stay the same, I don't think they mind if playtime is earlier one night, skipped the next night, etc. At least, mine don't seem to. I have just about the weirdest schedule ever, and only work seven months of the year, but during those seven months things are CRAZY. My gliders forgive me and love me, and I make it up to them during the winter, which I have off. smile

I'm probably just being over worried again. I do that sometimes, but one of our 4 seems to really thrive on a schedule and has become much more friendly with a schedule, and I was worried about throwing her off a little, but I guess I'm just going to have to do the best we can and hope she still continues to bond with me.

My schedule is always hectic !! In all the years I've owned gliders I've never had anything I do with them set in stone except for their dinner . All of my gliders get a ton of attention , play time, tent time but it's always different. I've never had any negative things happen to them ever! So though some animals do work on schedules I really don't believe gliders do. If you had done the same schedule for months or years at a time I could see them becoming stressed over the changes in routine but I wouldn't worry about it ! As long as you spend adequate time with them I should believ they'll be perfectly fine :-)
