Does it NEED to fit through your doors? If you put it together where it will stay, there's really no reason to take it in and out of the room. You can clean it by wiping and even using a steamer, and if you end up moving at some point, the gliders will need to move with it so you take the panels apart and put it back together at your new place. Use reusable zip ties to put the sides, top and bottom on so they're easy to take on and off. smile

I'll post pics of mine, but if your cage doesn't fit through the doors now, it sure won't if you copy my cage :rofl2: It's 50 inches wide, 30 inches deep and almost 7 feet tall.

My PVC cage:

I think a standard door is 36 inches wide. You want to make your measurements for the width of the cage taking into consideration that the "PVC Fittings" are going to add length/height/width, ect....

I love this PVC cage for a few reasons: I love the shelf, the 2 doors that open wide, and that the bottom has a built in stand. :hdance:

Exterior doors are mostly 36 inches. Interior doors are mostly 30 inches - but measure not just the door but the distance between the wood trim, which reduces the actual opening to about 29 inches.

Any cage you plan to keep in an interior room such as a bedroom and want to take out side for a good hose down now and then would need to be narrow enough in depth (narrowest base dimension) to fit your doorway.

If you can be just a little more patient, I'm currently working on a cage. It will be 4.5'l x 3'd x 6'h. I have the pvc panels built with only two completed with mesh/zipties. I am building it in panels because I also want it to fit through doors, but even more so, fit each panel into the shower if I want to give it more then just a wipe down. I also thought that building it in panels would give me the option to expand when I have more space. I'm building this to replace using the bathroom as a play area. The closed door is becoming an issue for my cats who don't like that they can't see what is going on. This play cage will let them see but keep everyone safe. It's a little more work then I thought it was going to be but I do believe it will be worth the effort.

Neets - your cage is going to be able to break-down? How are you going to keep the panels together?? Interesting idea... Any pictures to share for a visual?

When you build the PVC cages, you build them panel by panel. Once you have the sides, bottom and top done, then you put them all together. We used reusable zip ties so that when we do eventually take it down, we can just release the ties and it will come apart easily. The panels themselves are done with standard zip ties.

I had absolutely no clue there was a such thing as reuseable zips. If i had this wouldnt be an issue. It does need to fit thru doors as i need to be able to move it from one room to another. I have a son who might have issues with them respiratory wise. Now, that being said, he didnt have any issues with them this past week but i would like to b able to say to their father that i can move the cage into a room that they dont have access to if i need to. My current cage is like four inches too big on the smallest side because i didnt take into consideration the width of my doors. I cant even take it outside for a good scrubdown. My doors from trim to trim is 28 inches. Im not real sure that measurement is even appropriate for width on the cages. I feel like maybe if i can make the new cage that deep but taller than my current cage and longer it might compensate. What do u guys think?

Ok...here are the dimensions I'm thinking of.... 27 inches wide or deep, however you want to look at it, 45 inches long, 60 inches tall. What do you guys think about this?

Do the zip ties also serve as hinges on the doors?

I wouldn't use zip ties...use small hinges.

Candy - I don't know if you plan to rebuild a whole new cage or just cut back on the depth of the cage. You can purchase a pipe cutter from Lowes or Home Depot for about $10. Perhaps you can just cut back on the cage you currently have....

The problem with cutting back on the cage I already have is it would severly diminish the cage space they already have. I could do it temporarily but even with the cage as it is, I don't think they have enough space tounge It's basically 32 inches square and I would feel really really guilty for shortening their cage depthwise if I couldn't make up for it somewhere else. And to be honest, I just plain wanna make them another cage just to be doing it. I love my babies and I need an area that I can add Honey in with Alvin and Minnie and also I need their area to be big enough to add two more suggies to it cuz I'm gonna be rescueing two more tomorrow. A female that is 6 yrs and a neutered male that is about 1 1/2 yrs. I need more room for my expanding family!!!

Hey, Aimee...where do you get reuseable zips from? I can't find them down here. About how much do they run you?

I get mine from Home Depot. You'll only find them in packages of 10 - they don't make large bags of them, at least from what I've seen so far.

Thanks Aim!! I'll be using these to connect the panels. I'll use the permanent ones to make the actual panels smile

Dad and I will be working on it for the next two weeks... I am sooooo excited...

I cant wait to see what they do in this monster cage smile

Thank ya much! Think I'll just order these online. Making a new cage won't be that difficult for me because I kinda know what I am doing now. Think I'll be making it tomorrow and just cut down the cage today so I can move it out of Kris' gameroom. We are gonna have company tomorrow nite and I want it to be outta there by then.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm glad you got a couple answers already about putting the panels together. I'm using "L" brackets and currently have a couple of zipties where needed till I get the brackets in place. I've been side tracked by an injury and a sick cat so this building project has also been side tracked. I've attached the link to two pics of what I have done so far.

neets I sent you a pm. here is the cage I have for 2 of my 6 gliders. I am 5 ft 3 inches tall. the cage is 4ft tall by 2 ft wide by 2 ft deep. I want to make a cage that height and depth but make it 4 ft long as well. I am going to be getting 2 neutered males from a friend and I want to introduce them to cricket & Zoey but i dont know if i want to for sure yet cause the males are pom off neutered and i dont think I would be able to tell them apart just by looking into the cage at a glance.

The cage will be 4.5'l x 3'd x 6'h. It's big because I'm building this to replace using the bathroom as a play area. It's meant to let my cats be observers and keep everyone safe. The bottom of the bathroom door is starting to look a little too chewed up with all their scratching to get in. It's been a lot of work so far. Who would have known that zipties can burn out your forearms?! I'm looking forward to getting it done so that I have a more friendlier place to keep up with the introductions of my trio and duo.

How did you build your cage Neets? I love it, but I'm not handy with measurements and how to cut what at what length.. or math HAHAHAHA.. so nothing that will help me build a cage. Go figure..

looks so complicated, I wouldnt even know where to get the supplies, or what they are called x.x
