Some of my superworms mutated... transformed into darkling beetles, are they still ok to feed for my suggies? And do they still contain high level of fat?

THANKS!

If they are superworms, they aren't darkling beetles, superworms morph into a beetle many times larger than a darkling. But, I don't feed darkling beetles for the simple reason that the hard skeletal shell may possibly scratch their mouths. The fat content of the Darkling Beetle is actually much less than the mealworm itself:
Mealworms: 40.46 (Grubco lists the fat content as 12.72)
Adult Darkling Beetles: 28.33
(This is what one website lists the Crude Fat as)

Why not go ahead and place them in a container with some cardboard and some oatmeal and start yourself a little farm?

Oh ok. The vet who cured Caramel's lumpy jaw told me that even the big rhinoceros beetles are ok. I fed one last week(Ill post pics later), Oreo overpowered and started with the legs.

But aside from the hard shell, no poisonous substance in them?

THANKS!

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />I don't know or think they have any poisions or toxins but it's just something I wouldn't feed unless I knew for sure.

I know some species of beetel can produce a toxin as a defence against being eaten...again, I;m not sure if this is the case here or not.

I've offered regular-mealworm-type darkling beetles, but none of my sugar gliders seem interested.
However, my opossum LOVES these, and would eat every adult in my mealie farm if I let him.
