Hi I was wondering when a joey starts regulating their own body heat, when Miah and Pacha are shut in the cage and playing they do check on her but when the cage door is open for play time they tend to forget her and she goes walk about. I take this time to weigh her and cuddle her, I also give her joey BML and womberoo at this time. When I put her back in the pouch she often crawls straight out again and goes behind the wheel so the process starts again. Also she has tried to get on mum or dads back but they dont seem to like it and take her straight back to the pouch or ignore her...when do you think they will let her ride on them?

[:"blue"] How old is she now?

As for the piggy back rides, most glider moms and dads do let the little ones do this, however, strange as it may sound, I have three family units and I have not had piggybackers in any of the families <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nixweiss.gif" alt="" />
I definitely mine are not the norm. [/]

[:"green"]Both of my breeding pairs do not carry their joeys around on their backs unless I put the joeys on them. Then they just carry the joeys back to the pouch & deposit them.
Joeys can start to regulate their own heat when they are about 6 weeks old and by the time they are fully weaned they are totally able to regulate their own heat.

The breeder that I purchased Adam and Eve from said they needed a heating pad until they were 6 months old. I assumed their joeys - if we get some, would need a pad. ???

no heating pad is needed unless you are hand rearing joeys 6 weeks OOP or less.
