Quick update: Winda's two boys were completely out of pouch last night!!!

I have found my colony of gliders to have a very unique dynamic I didn't realize they would have. Cheirpa and Winda both have joeys in pouch. Cheirpa's are probably a week behind Winda's in development.

Last night Cheirpa was babysitting Winda's babies while she was playing. But Cheirpa had only one baby in her pouch. I checked Winda out, and she had one of Cheirpa's joeys in her pouch nursing. All four gliders take care of the two boys oop, but I didn't realize the two mother's would share joey's. It is amazing and weird.

This morning, both Cheirpa's joeys were back in her pouch and the two boys were nursing from Winda so they are back in their normal pouches. Has anyone else come across joeys being shared by their mother's?

These four gliders are well bonded with eachother and inseperateable. It is such a joy to see all four love and lick and clean the joeys!

That is so sweet. I was surprised at my trios baby rearing rolls too. My Lilo has one 2 weeks OOP and Winter has two 3 weeks IP. Before Lilo's came OOP I would watch and both moms would kind of sit back in the pouch with their backs against the pouch wall next to each other and Lilo would open her pouch and clean her baby while Winter watched and then Winter would do her's. My hubby thinks I am crazy, but I know Lilo, who is older, was teaching Winter how to take care of the babies. Now that Lilo's is OOP, Winter and daddy (Storm) spend alot of time babysitting. Winter can not carry Lilo's baby on her back because she is only 65g and the baby is up to 35g, so I watch and so when they move the baby to another pouch, Winter follows and then whoever carried the baby leaves and she stays with the baby. SOOOO cute. These are the most amazing creatures I have ever seen. No wonder we are all obsessed.

I had a trio that would share babies. It was an interesting site to see one of the females with all 4 joeys stuffed into her pouch... Unfortunately, I never was able to get any pictures

This is usually pretty normal with working trios. I love seeing each mom taking care of all the joeys. It is very sweet.

Ahhh! That is the sweetest thing I've ever herd. Do each female have there own mate or is ther e onley 1 male for the colony? My mom just added I guess it really does take a village to raise a child.

In the case of my colony, Wickett is father to all. Chukha is a very laid back wfb and has no problem with Wickett's dominance, if you could call it that. At one time, I tried to pair Chukha with Kneesha, but that only lasted one night. Chukha and Wickett would bark back and forth between the rooms all night and my heart just broke, so he went back with his colony. I could not believe all the love and attention he got from the other three and I never tried to do that again. I see why people do not ever want to separate established mates/colonies.
