Hello all....I use to be on here a lot and I use to own gliders and had to find homes for all of them because life took a nasty turn on me. Well I was recently contacted by someone that has a 5 mo old glider that has an injured leg. They asked me if I would want the glider. They let her have free roam of a room in their house and they do not use a cage for her, and well....she got her leg caught in a door!!! So I am in the process of finding a glider safe cage for her and then I will be picking her up! ..... They say they took her to a vet to have it looked at and the vet said they could amputate, or just give her pain meds and see how it went. They said that she is leaving her leg alone (so no SM at this point) I was looking to anyone who has special needs babies and advice on how to make her cage set up better for her?! Thank you all for any help and suggestions!

Please contact Val she has dealt with a lot of gliders with special needs. For a cage set up I would say put in lots of hammocks and corner shelves so she has spots to rest and places to catch her if she falls. I'll keep your new little one in my prayers. I hope she will be ok.

Personally, I would take her to a vet and have xrays done to see what the damage is. Amputation might be the best option for a pain free life for this little glider. Just because it "heals" does not mean it will heal right and could cause nerve damage or constant pain. Since they can't talk, they can't tell us it hurts except by SM'ing. Not a risk I'd want to take.

I hope and pray she is doing ok. At least the owners have taken her to a vet. I do have to mention that I had a baby joey with a broken leg and ana hair or string or something wrapped around her toe and broke her leg trying to get uncaught or something but the vet told me he thought he was going to have to amputate her toe but he wanted to wait and see if it was going to fall off on it's own...I'm so glad we didn't rush into having it amputated because within days it was completely healed on it's own and looking like nothing had ever happened to it. So there could be some hope that her leg will heal and be ok. Our baby's leg also healed completely so well you couldn't even feel where it had been broken. She was only a few weeks old when her leg broke though.

Just to give you an update, I did not get this glider, he has someone that wanted to pay him for her so I was "out bid" :-( I hope this sweet girl got a loving home and a knowledgable owner too!
