Hello,
So my youngest baby (neutered male) enjoys biting. It's not when we are trying to get him to do something (he's actually really good if I have to scoop him up for something) ...so I don't think it's a "stop doing that" bite. He will jump out from the cage to get on me then he may bite my wrist or my elbow bend skin or the back of my neck. He will continue to bite the same spot. He's been known to draw blood on my husband ( he has higher threshold of pain than me). He even did it to my cousin the first time they met and my cousin is such an animal lover that he just stood there and took it while wincing in pain. I've thought maybe cleaning us...he does like to bathe one of my others gliders quite a bit but he doesn't wince like we do...lol. Another curious fact is that so,entires when he's out, he won't bit at all....the. The next time he will bite constantly. We don't use lotions or anything scented like that so it can't be something he doesn't like to smell (well maybe the shampoo does smell some...but nothing on our skin) Not sure of anyone can tell me what this type of bite means and what I can do. I think the first step is finding out why he's doing it.
Thank you!

If he's young, it could just be a stange that he's going thru ohwell

When he does it, make a "tsk tsk" sound and direct his attention elsewhere. Doing that will help to teach him that you don't like that.

Mine does the same. For days at a time he does not bite at all (he grooms, but no biting), and then all the sudden he "attacks". He prefers to bite bare skin, the top of our heads, or our noses. He digs his claws in and bites real hard. We make the tsk tsk sound, and it does stop him. Only for a few seconds though. Once he's in that "stage", he cannot be distracted or stopped for good with anything.

I don't like taking him back to the cage then, because I don't want him to think that the cage is a punishment. So, we sit in the tent, covered in jackets, hats, and safety glasses and let him have his way. Not sure what else to do... I hope it is just a teenage stage

It sounds like rough grooming. I would use the tsk tsk sound to get him to stop and gently remove him from the spot he is grooming.

My Tucker did that when he was younger, the next day he would go back to where he had groomed me and then pick the scabs off.

If a sugar glider picks a scab off there is no picking, you don't know they are going to do it until RIIIIiiiiiiipppp!

oh boy I hope I miss this stage with my girl. I hot a higher pain threshold than my wife. I am also way rougher/stronger and don't realize it at times. ( too much macho guy and not asking for help when doing odd jobs.) I would have to be careful not to react like I am swatting a bug. ( poor glider might learn what a mealie does when she grabs into one. lol )
