I was wondering why BML has to be frozen and can't be simply put in the fridge, especially if it'll be gone within 2 weeks.
Thanks!

I would think that the refridgerator isn't cold enough to stop the growth of bacteria and stuff. Personally, I wouldn't eat a hard boiled egg if it had been in the fridge for two weeks...

I agree lol. Plus, freezing it maintains a consistency that gliders seem to enjoy.

I would think egg, chicken, yogurt and perhaps even juice would be a bit off after that long in the fridge. I'm sure the jars of baby food tell you to throw if not consumed within a couple of days of opening.

Okay, so if I put a smaller amount in the fridge (what will be gone within about 3 days) I shouldn't have a problem.

I would still have to say that for food safety it should be frozen... the ingredients mixed can cause problems...

What problems could they cause mixed?
I just want to figure out what would be best and why it wouldn't be good to freeze. Thanks!

Do you give your BML to your gliders still frozen? Or do you let what you are giving them thaw before putting it in there cage?

The ingredients If not stored properly could grow bacteria, as any food could if not stored properly… the mixture of egg, honey, baby food…ect.

As for serving I pull out the number of cubes I need about 20-30 min before placing I their cages… it thaws a bit but is still cold when served…

I have been giving it frozen but they won't touch it until it's partly thawed. Wouldn't it be better to have it in the fridge for awhile before giving it to them instead of having it out. Bacteria grows best at room temp. so even in the fridge will stop a lot from growing.
Thanks for your responses!

The best thing to do is freeze it into ice cube trays and then put it out about half an hour before they wake up. It's easier this way and you don't have to measure everything out every single night. The freezer deffinately keeps food way better than the fridge. if you're only gonna have a three day supply in the fridge it should be fine but come on now...whats the point. It's better to put it in the freezer and it makes more sense then just getting out a 3 days supply...

BML contains chicken. Think about E-coli bacteria; if you bought chicken and put in the fridge for three days, it would start to smell. BML is best kept in the freezer.

Yes, you've got many ingredients that need to be kept frozen for long-term storage. If you want to serve it thawed, you can take it out 30 minutes before dinner time. If you cut the BML in the bowl into little chunks, it will thaw very quickly at room temperature.

Chicken, in addition to being cooked properly, storing it is just as important. There are, at minimum, 4 different types of bacteria associated with chicken:
USDA Chicken Storage Safety

Check the chart out towards the bottom of the page for storage.

[:"green"]Another factor to consider with BML is that when it sits, thawed, for awhile the vitamins will settle to the bottom of the container it is in. Then, when you take it out of the fridge to serve, the top portion will not have as many vitamins/calcium as it should and the bottom portion will have too many... Freezing the BML is really the best option.
