Hello, so the past few months I have been lurking and figuring out as much as I can about Gliders, so I figured now would be a good time to make an account. As some may know, Sugar gliders in Pennsylvania are illegal. I called two different game commissioners and they immediately said people ask a lot and that they are definitely illegal. HB 575 however, seeks to reclassify the "exotic animals" list, and make hedgehogs and sugar gliders legal. I asked one of the game commissioners if he had heard about updates on HB 575, and he told me they may be putting it up for a vote if it gets enough attention. The bill has been issued to the Game and Fishery Committee, which consists of about 25 or so members. If you are in PA, or just want to help out, please contact these Representatives and express your support of the bill!!! I have a letter that I can put up here if anyone is too lazy to come up with one lol.
Here is the link, you can see the members of the committee on the left.
Thanks for looking, and lets get this moving!

No link? I live in NJ and always have people asking about getting gliders, or I see them on Craigslist there all the time. I'd love to help make them legal in another state!

Here's the link to information on the bill: PA HB 575 I've written to a bunch of state reps about this bill, since I'm in PA and would really like to be able to own sugar gliders. I encourage anyone in PA to find your state reps and tell them you want them to support this bill!

Hi there everyone! I have been working my tail off on this issue! On Facebook, I have started the page in the link below. I am working my hardest to make sure it is up to date with the current legislation. I have been on the phone and emailing the senators and representatives endlessly. HB575 and SB521 are coming to the end of their session this November and if we don't make a push to the legislators, it could easily die and it will have to be introduced once again. I would love for you to like the page and I promise to work hard for everyone involved!! Okay for some reason, it won't let me copy a link but here is another link that is super easy to use from Born Free USA! http://www.bornfreeusa.org/legislation.php?p=3872&more=1The Facebook page is Legalize Sugar Gliders & Hedgehogs in PA.

I sent letters a couple of weeks ago. Lisa from Suncoast was urging people, so I put in my two cents.

As far as I know they are still illegal. I'm sure there will be quite the rumble throughout the community when PA declares they are indeed legal

A little good news for people in PA!
Pennsylvania:
House Bill 2450 (HB2450) was introduced on April 27 and amends (changes) Title 34 (Game) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes. The main scope of the bill is to redefine "exotic wildlife."
The bill does include a list of species, but that list is not inclusive as the bill clearly states it applies to "all nonindigenous animals." Following the list, there are species exemptions. This bill actually removes several species from the current exotic wildlife designation meaning some species which are currently wrongfully banned will be legal to keep.
Under HB2450, the term "exotic wildlife" does not include: any member of the class Aves (birds), any member of the families Equidae (horses, [censored] and zebras), Camelidae (camels, alpacas and llamas), Cervidae (deer, moose and elk), Bovidae (wild cattle and spiral-horned antelopes), Muridae (rats and mice), Chinchillidae (chinchillas and viscachas), Leporidae (rabbits and hares), Petauridae (gliders and striped possums) or any member of the species Mustela furo (domestic ferrets) or Cavia porcellus (domestic guinea pigs) or any domestic animal as that term is defined in 18 Pa.C.S. Ch. 55 Subch. B. (relating to cruelty to animals).
To clarify, exotic wildlife will now mean any nonindigenous animal not listed in the above paragraph (except herps and fish, see bottom of post for explanation). That means certain species, such as ferrets and sugar gliders, can now be legally kept in Pennsylvania (if the bill passes).
