My Sweet Jinxy.

Sunday was cleaning day – typically an enjoyable set of chores.  I clear the Suggie cages (one per couple) and hose them down out on the porch.  They all sleep through it, so, I've always just closed off the bathroom, make sure the toilet lid’s down, and hang their pouches from the shower curtain.  Same drill as always – they usually don’t even wake up.

Jinx is the cute one and is about a third of the size of my other three; always engaging with tons of personality.  She is clearly my favorite and will not be denied once she is focused on something.  Well, apparently she decided that she was going to check out the stud, Jobu.  Jobu is gorgeous and is still “intact.”  I do not know how it happened, but, I went in to settle a ruckus and Jinx had been attacked, probably by Jobu’s much larger mate.  Jinx’ rear feet were a mess. She lost a full toe and at least two toe tips/nails - it almost looked like she had been burned.  She had also taken a bite to the nose, several to her tail, and seemingly to all of her foot pads.  It really could only have gone on for a few moments. I have never seen any animal so happy to see me when I ran in.

I held her that night for many hours while she cooed and stared - I thought lovingly - at me.  We know that gliders have lots of chirps, sounds, and songs that are easy to interpret.  These were different - they were like the "favorite food song," but deeper, like she wanted to be heard. She kept head rubbing my palm, just like a comforted cat. It was one of the saddest, but most beautiful times I’ve ever spent with a ‘pet.’

Her appetite was great that night and she was not bleeding, although I could did not really understand how/why. As of morning, she was acting like nothing even happened.  She was visibly limping and having some difficulty navigating her habitat (bars), but, her language told me that she was going to be okay. She was even running her wheel and interacting with her mate. It's going to sound odd, but I have a surveillance type camera that I use to watch them over the internet while at work - other than the understandable mobility issue, no behavior out of the ordinary for two full days. I never once thought that she was critically injured.

Today is Tuesday. I came home from work and my sweet Jinxy was on her back, lifeless at the base of her wheel. I feel so empty. I would have done anything for her. I *never* thought that this could happen. First, I put them together where the damage could be done to her. Then I did not think to seek veterinary help or to come to the good people of GliderCentral for advice. I've had so many different pets . . . few have touched my heart like Jinx did. I am so terribly, terribly sad.

Thanks for all of the kind words. I had to break this unfortunate news to my teenage daughters. I have a very lonely male (Felix) whose entire life has been spent with sweet Jinxy. Now I am thinking about treking to SGGA in Lexington this weekend just to see some potential mates.

I really appreciate you Guys!

Looking for a special female within driving distance of High Point, NC. - Rick
