So, my girls Mika and Lucy are as different as two personalities can be. Mika is the energetic, always playful, mischievous girl, and Lucy is the lowkey cuddler. I love them both, and despite differences, they love each other. Mika's way of showing this is to groom Lucy....for a while now I've wondered about the balding patch on Lucy's head--I took possession of the gliders and gave them their forever home a month ago when my dad died, and thanks to having a lot of time and working from home, they've bonded quickly and I've been able to care for them in every way. They're quite spoiled. I thought it was stress, at first, and that Lucy had done this to herself--but then I started going in early to watch them a bit while they cuddle (as they do before they start play time), and I noticed that Mika was the one grooming Lucy....always on the head, always excessively. And Lucy lets her. She's obviously not grooming to the point that it's hurting her, but I'd like the hair to grow back....any thoughts, or similar experiences?

Do you have a picture of the area you're talking about?

I'll take a picture tonight. I was *just* able to take my first picture of Mika last evening--Lucy is more skittish, and I've yet to be able to get one without the flash. This weekend I can have my husband hold them in the pouch for me so that I can do this.

It's a large diamond shape that begins a bit after her eyebrows end, spreads over the cap of her skull down to her ears. It *looks* like it's beginning to fill in some, now, and my mom said that she's been this way for a year or so. This concerned me, especially before I knew that it was Mika over grooming Lucy. The vet I took them both to on Monday admits to not having much experience with gliders, and said that the are may not be attractive, but there are no sores and her fecal tests have come back negative for everything. So it seems to just be Mika's love of over grooming Lucy. I've started breaking up play time to: 9 p.m. till 11 p.m., 1 a.m. till three a.m., and four a.m. till six a.m., then a treat of meal worms at ten a.m. My aim is to keep them both busy, in the hopes that without any down time (I leave when they curl up to sleep, and go back in as soon as I hear signs of life, or on the schedule, whichever comes first) in the hopes that Mika will quit over grooming Lucy out of boredom, which is the reason the vet seems to think she's doing it.

I've found an exotic that has sugars of her own an hour away in Easton, so I'm going to take the girls there next month. The local vet seems ok, but I don't want to risk anything with my babies. I'll get a pic tonight or tomorrow morning of Lucy Bear and post it---here's one of Mika, the first ever taken of her!

Sorry, the photo is too large to attach, and I haven't the time to resize it now. Thank you for the interest--I'll get back to you with a picture asap (my husband is in Baltimore, so tomorrow morning is a likely estimation, around eleven)

Isobel

You have some seriously spoiled sugar gliders there!! When in the world do you sleep?? I thought me getting up at 3:45 was bad!

Most of us just get a few reset toys and call it a night :rofl2:

xD! Aww, I'm a programmer, I work remotely from home, so I just nap throughout the day and night and work / play with the girls at intervals---I also have started bringing my laptop in their room to let them run around while I work!

They seem to like chewing on my buttons >.>
