Okay so I am in the process of adopting two gliders here soon. They are so Cute!!! Okay but I wanted to make my own pouches which isn't going so well so I decided to buy some. Can anyone recommend someone who makes them for a good price, that you've personally had a good experience with? I think I'll get more into making them pouches and toys once they're here and I get more of the hazards to them. I heard of them getting stuck and hurting themselves. Also I've unfortunately have been learning the wrong stuff from the pocket pet ppl that my breeder told me about. So I'm in the process of looking for some good concrete information such as Books, Good Websites, and what not. If you guys could suggest any I'd be grateful. Really any advice experienced sugar glider families can recommend to me will be a huge help. From Fleece types, good toy decisions, I got the food down, from first night with babies advice it would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to glider parenthood and to the forum. Check the Classified section of the forum under Glider Things - there are many members of the forum that make pouches and other glider necessities.

Most everything you get for sugar gliders will likely need to be shipped. However, you are in SC (not sure exactly where) but Sari is also in SC. Here is her website: Suggie Smart Mart She does amazing work, safe, and you won't be disappointed! Also, you may want to check out the 20014 SSS in SC !

As for helpful videos, Youtube, check out the LGRS channel. There is a very good nail trimming vid as well as suggie education and myth debunking. I love the LGRS videos. I ordered a sleeping pouch from SunCoast sugar gliders, Zoey absolutely loves it! Here is the link to their sleeping pouches Zoey likes: http://www.sugar-gliders.com/index.php?id_product=110&controller=productZoey has the skull and cross bones one. I was told she was a boy and found out otherwise AFTER I had already ordered the pouch. She likes it anyways.

Depends what kind they are. Some toys can be boiled and let air dry for a few hours. I just brush the food bits and stuff off, spray them, wipe down and let dry. If I'm deep cleaning I'll put the non wooden toys in the sink and wash with antibacterial hand soap or Dawn dish soap, rinse really well and let dry.

http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/...ons#Post1020452Here's a link to an older thread about cage cleaning. It's always good to check the archives/locked posts. Under each forum name are subheadings, that's the easiest way to find what you're after. The above link is from Housing & Accessories, Housing 101; sub-forum Cleaning.

For your fleece items you can just use your regular detergent, but no fabric softener or dryer sheets. I, personally, use Seventh Generation.
It would be good to go with something that's unscented. If you put fleece back in the cage that's heavily scented, they'll overmark it to make it smell like them again.

Yes. I agree. I wash plastic toys with palmolive dishwashing soap or hand soap and rinse real well. The wooden toys you can only use for a short time, once they are soiled with urine I just throw them away. I clean my cage with palmolive dishwashing soap weekly. I wash the cage tray with unscented diaper wipes daily and weekly clean the tray with bleach. I wash the pouches weekly with Gain detergent. When I dry it in the dryer and put it back in the cage yhe run to get back in the clean warm pouch.

Only the cage pan needs attention every day or two to remove waste and food scraps that might draw insects. I use a paper liner so I can just roll it up to remove all the waste easily.
I wash the bottom grate and cage pan (outside with dawn dish soap, hose rinse and dry in the sunshine - or in the shower if the weather prevents an outside cleaning) weekly.
My cages as a whole only get a full scrub down - outside with Dawn dish soap, hose rinsing and sun dry - every month or two.
As Shelly said - over cleaning can sometimes work against you.

Wodent wheels are not the best choice for gliders because of the fixed axle in the center - especially if the wheel did not come with the guard that protects glider's tails from contacting the axle. Gliders do not just run in their wheels. They like to jump across the wheel to propel it forward. They cannot really jump in a wodent wheel - especially with the safety guard in place. The axle on the wodent wheel must be kept very clean or it becomes sticky from glider pee and pooh in the wheel. The sticky axle can catch the glider's tail fur and since the axle is fixed in place, as the glider runs its tail can become wrapped around the axle (like a hair roller) causing fur loss, broken tails or even de-gloving injuries where the fur and skin is ripped from the tail. If you have not yet put the wodent wheel in the cage, you might see if you can return it for a refund. Even the manufacturer recommends that sugar gliders use a wodent wheel one at a time - WITH SUPERVISION. These open face wheels are all glider safe: Stealth Wheel http://atticworx.com/Fast Track Wheel http://www.go-fast-track.com/spinzone.htmlRaptor Wheel http://www.mygliderwheelsandmore.com/Custom Cruiser Wheel http://customchoicecruiser.all4gliders.com/H-Wheel http://www.humbertossugargliders.com/hwheelv2.0.html

These things are not a problem with the guard, though, correct? I have a wodent wheel with guard and I do keep it for supervised play, but I'd like to know all I can.

The guard protects the glider's tail from injuries - but it also forces the glider to just walk or run in the wheel which is NOT a natural way for the glider to use it. Gliders need to stretch their bodies and jump. They jump across the center of an open wheel to propel it. Sometimes one jumps and a second glider goes along for the ride - then they trade places.

I realize that, I'm just asking about dangers. I'm going to be getting them an open wheel, but thanks to a recent hospital trip, money is tight, and I don't want to dip into my vet fund. I absolutely recognize that an open wheel is better for them; but, if we're just talking about their exercise, limited running in a wheel is better than no wheel at all. Again, that's if we JUST consider exercise (And if I am wrong about that, please do tell me, but I would be very surprised if a few months of using an axel wheel would impact their muscles because they aren't jumping in it). I watch them to make sure they don't climb on top of it, poke head or limbs out while it is going around, or climb near the pin. The main dangers I've heard are regarding the axel, so I just wanted to confirm that the guard eliminates those.

Lory - don't feel like you are doing things wrong -
Gliders are a learning experience for all of us. We learn from each other's experiences. We learn patience from our gliders and we learn to make choices that are good for both our selves and our little furry friends.
Everyone makes mistakes especially when they do not have the information they need. The goal is to make better choices when you do have the information needed.
You and your gliders will be fine.
