My sugar glider, Louie, seems to prefer his Wodent Wheel (which he has been using for several years) more than his new Stealth Wheel we put in its place? :tant2:

We didn't want to cause him trauma by removing the other Wodent Wheel in his cage right away until he started using the new wheel. I suggested just taking out the other Wodent Wheel, but my husband thinks he will miss being able to get a cookie or other treat and running to eat it while sitting inside his Wodent Wheel. It is attached to the back on the bottom of the cage, and the Stealth is side mounted towards the top where the other Wodent Wheel was. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?

Personally, I would remove the Wodent wheel. It may take Louie a bit to figure it out, but that's ok. Some adjust to change quicker than others, some need a bit of time.

Thanks Shelly, that's what I'm thinking, but still wondering about someplace for him to eat his treats. Maybe I can find something that he would feel secure in to put where the old wheel was.

Thanks!

Some gliders like the security of the Wodent wheel. I would take out the Wodent and either let him go cold turkey or take the Wodent apart, drill holes around the outside of the front cover and zip tie it to the Stealth wheel.

Make sure you sand down the zip ties when you cut them off so there are no sharp edges. Also make it so the zip ties fasten on the outside of the rim.

Good Luck

I would remove the wodent wheel and just let him discover the Stealth on his own. It probably will not take long.

You might put a treat or two into the stealth to attract him to it.

Rather than attaching the front of the Wodent to the Stealth you might want to consider one of these wheel covers:

For a place to sit and eat a treat, my gliders like the Strawberry or Cake hideouts sold at many pet stores in the small animal section.

Or this inexpensive shape sorter castle

You can also remove the stand from the wodent wheel and lay it down flat on the floor to use as play bin, you can put toys in there and he can sit in there and eat his treat me or snack. I used my wodent wheel that way, maybe tomorrow when I get to my computer I'll post photo of my Skadoosh inside it. I eventually stopped using it because I found it took up a lot of floor space. I believe others have used that way as well.

I found that photo
