Has any one had any experience with taking their gliders on an over night trip? I am sure there are some that have... I have a 16x16x16 pvc/pet screen cube with a mini raptor and a 30x30x48 pet screen/pvc cage which can break down.

My question is: If I were to make an overnight trip will a 16x16x16 cube suffice for 2 of my fuzzbutts? Or would the larger cage be better? I have attempted trips before but have managed to make arrangements before. I know there may be a time that I will need to take them, so I am looking for suggestions.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would take the larger cage, seeing as you can break it down. That way they will have more room to play.

I use pop up nylon dog kennels as my travel cages.

I agree. If the larger one can easily break down, I'd go with that.

That size is not sufficient for an overnight stay at all. That is a size that should only be used as a temporary hospital cage (for sick/injured glider where a larger cage is not ideal) or for use in the car so they have a bit more room to move around and have access to the wheel. That is really only needed if you are traveling during the night though.

Thanks all!! My gut told me the 16x16x16 wasn't large enough at all- I couldn't see leaving my fuzzboys in there for their evening . If and when I go for an over night I will bring their larger pet screen room. I have just heard stories of using a smaller cage, and I was checking with others to confirm my thoughts- fewww!! im still thinking correctly- sometimes I think I'm way overprotective- I'm glad I'm just being a good 'mama'.

Thanks for the reassurance and responses!! Much appreciated.

Oh I usually use the 16x16x16 cage as a car transport if needed.

You have great instincts, also a good idea to double check with questions to be sure. My travel cage which was meant for weekend camping trips (in pop-up camper) measures 18" x 20" x 26". Of course, I agree with the consensus that larger is always better. Your gliders are lucky to have a travel size the size yours is.

For a travel cage, I personally would not recommend anything smaller than a 4.50 cubic square feet cage (24 X 18 X 18)

The 16 X 16 X 16 is only 2.37 CSF.... definitely should only be used as a transport cage (from home to vet or from breeder to new home).

Hi Feather - what do you use as a a grid/tray system for the bottom of the cage? I have a pop up dog kennel but I can't come up with a good potty tray & grid.

About the only thing you can do for a pop up dog kennel is to lay a piece of fleece on the bottom cut to fit the kennel.

I do just what Shelly said, I lay a piece of fleece in the bottom and set the wheel on it.

Currently I have a Glide-Ariam that I use, and similar to the pop up kennel, you need something inside on the floor or at least under it. I currently just used plastic under it for now. I originally was going to cut fleece liners to use inside, but now would rather wait and order custom liners from Jana. She did a great job on my corner shelf custom liner, and I'm impressed with how nice they are and ease to clean. They would work great in a pop up kennel also I believe.
