Thank you so much you have been a great help I tried the leadbeater recipe today and they seemed to enjoy that quite a lot well Dyanasis and Obsidian are anyway. I have a rescued joey that the vet says is only about a week or two out of the pouch that was dropped off outside my house today he is adorable and taking well to the formula the vet gave me. He has stunning markings I must say. I pretty much have everything covered with the cage and toys and extra play areas and bonding but I cant really find anything on mating as such and it honestly sounds like they are mating every night but my male hasnt got his bold patch as of yet so im not sure whats going on there i mean i catch them in the act every three hours at night like clock work and when i catch them they carry on for a little while then go eat and then start the chase and grab and bark all over again my cat finds it very amusing. Im very lucky that my cat mothers them and doesnt try to kill them she was the one that brought the joey in to me i wouldnt have seen it until this afternoon otherwise as i work from home.

I'm so confused. You're cat brought you a wild glider joey?? A joey that is only a week or two out of pouch will need A LOT of attention and care. Please read up on hand raising a joey HERE so that it has the best chance for survival.

If your cat brought it to you, more than likely what you have is a flying squirrel and not a sugar glider at all. If you can, please post a photo as flying squirrels require a completely different form of diet than a sugar glider does. One is from the rodent family and one is from the marsupial family. Completely different needs.

I believe the original poster is in Asia, so it could very well be a wild glider.

okay so i seemed to have confused a few of you guys i know what a sugar glider is i have two sugar gliders and have had a flying squirrel before but they are actually illegal to keep we can keep tree squirrels in south africa but there are no flying squirrels and the only places you can find wild squirrels is on the opposite side of south africa which is about 1400km away from me. okay so here is the full story yesterday morning at about 5:30 am my cat trouble brought in a pouch dropped it off on my bed and meowed at me, the pouch was covered in mud so i assume she found it abandoned outside i opened the pouch to find a tiny joey whos eyes havent even opened just yet. so i took it to the vet to get it checked out and the vet says it was probably only lost about an hour before my cat brought it to me ive been giving it the formula that the vet gave me and have introduced it to my two sugar gliders dyanasis and obsidian who have adopted it. i had been around my sugar gliders from two weeks before they were oop and have been with them every step of the way since. it has been 9 months since i got them. the joey my cat found was in a pouch so was probably either dropped by the owner and the parents ran off or was abandoned by someone in my area by my house because pretty much everyone here knows i have gliders as they are always with me. i repeat it was not a wild glider or a tree squirrel it was brought to me by my cat in a pouch once i figure out how to post pictures i will send one of kaiju (the joey that was found) sorry about the confusion guys hope this makes more sense now

It makes a lot more sense now. Good luck with the joeys. Here is a link to hand feeding joeys for you: Suz' Sugar Glider On the top of the page are navigation links for you to move around her website.

You should put a pouch outside to see if the other gliders come back.
Good luck with the joey.

You may also want to contact Liezl and Casper there in South Africa. There have been folks here that have used the HPW Plus™ and HPW Complete™ to nurse joeys and I know you have access to that there in S.A. Just be sure to add some probiotics to the formula. I have already spoken to Liezl about this. Sorry about the confusion and thank you for clearing it up. Best of luck and keep us updated.

Thank you and I will let you guys know how the little guy is doing in about a week yeah i have already added probiotics the the formula the little guy seems to be doing well so far dyanasis has been very protective over him she really is happy to be a mother by the looks of things even though she herself hasnt had her own babies yet but at least the little guy is around other gliders which i am very happy about.
oh and regarding the parents i have put posters up and asked all everyone around the area to keep an eye out lets hope i find them if they were ever there to begin with.
