I was watching a youtube video, And I ran across a vid in wich a lady was giving both the good and bad points of owning a sugar glider, She mentioned that it was better to trim your gliders nails rather having the trim tracks, As gliders go potty anywhere they please and they will go in their wheel and their poop gets all over the trim track and in their nails. Is having the trim track for their wheels a bad idea?

I tried the trimming inserts in a wheel I bought a couple months back. They started to smell pretty bad really quickly. When I removed them, they were urine soaked. I would rather have their nails trimmed myself.

Some people like the trim tracks, some don't.

I don't have them, I just trim nails every other week.

Pros: Help keep the nails short, less nail trimming.

Cons: Collect poop, collect pee, smell after a while, have to wash wheel more often.

This is just my opinion, I am sure there are others that will speak highly of trim tracks.

I don't use them either. They aren't a replacement for nail trimming, so I just trim their nails myself.

Thanks, I was looking at your vid on youtube ( Gilder Nursery you made trimming their nails look so easy) from what I gather, You just clip the very ends.. Looks extremely easy I'll definitly be buyin a nail trimming kit:)

Once you get the hang of it, it is pretty simple. You just have to realize that if they can pull their foot out of your hand, you aren't holding tight enough. Most have a fear of hurting their feet. And yes, I just trim the tips. If you get too short, you'll cut into the vein and they will bleed.

Sending you a PM. wink

lol We use the waterproof sandpaper ( 400 grit) and it last about 5 months with 4 gliders before it need washing( replacing as I am just too rough on stuff) I seen/felt a difference in only 2 days on how much of a difference it makes on their nails. With the stealth wheels it actually harder to take the wheel out of their cage than it is to replace sandpaper lol. ( we have to take ours out the bottom as the wheel bigger than their cage door lol.

If you're going to use the sandpaper, I'd recommend switching it out much more frequently than this. Because there's no where for their pee and poo to go, it will build up on the sandpaper inside the wheel and get nasty and stinky really quickly. I can't imagine letting it go for 5 months shock But that's just my personal opinion.
