ok so here's the deal... I'm aware gliders bark. it's how they talk and communicate. However recently little miss Nova has been creating "supernovas" of barking every night. I believe it's something environmental though. something I've changed in her life. because recently I've put her cage next to my breeding pairs cage... and that's when it started. she is actually an offspring of said pair. and I've never had an issue with them being close to one another. however with the female having a pouch full of joeys, idk if maybe she's irritated about it, maybe she wants to meet the new fuzzballs... or maybe it's more of a hormonal imbalance for her considering she's approaching 1 year old... idk maybe gliders go through puberty and annoy their parents as well. any advice or theories would be greatly appreciated.

She is probably lonely in a cage alone and wants one of the other gliders to come join her - or she is asking if she can come back to the colony.
I have gliders that bark every night just to hear themselves bark. Corky tells everyone a story - a long one - for about 20 minutes every evening - all the other gliders freeze to listen and when he is done they go on with exploring, foraging and playing in their cages.
He has done this for 6 years even when he had only one cagemate. He now has 3 cage mate and 8 other gliders to entertain (3 colonies in 3 cages).
Several of my gliders also bark when my son's alarm clock goes off (between 3 & 6 am depending on his work location for the day) and when the sprinklers come on out side their room.
Her barking may calm down when she has a cage mate - or she may just like to hear herself bark and continue the habit for ever. You will eventually learn to tune it out.

If she is alone in her cage she is barking because she is alone and wants company.
Are you going to be pairing her with someone?

sorry i forgot to say she has a cage buddy. one of my other females. I have put down a deposit on a het leu male who will be ready in about a month that will be for them. she seems real interested with what's going on in her momma's cage though. 90% of the time she is on the side of the cage that the other cage is and barking.
i suppose there doesn't have to be a rhyme or reason to why she is barking, as they tend to do this... but it started the night the joeys decided to pop out of the pouch. could just be a coincidence.

You may also want to cover three sides of the cage with fleece too.

Is there something in the other cage (toy, food, smell) that she wants? Have you changed or added toys to pique her intrest? I think Feather is right too. She might be bored. I think covering the cage might help too. oh and Fiona knows when my alarm goes off in the morning. She barks till she hears the toilet flush! Then she hangs on the front of the cage while I make coffee. Then she gets a mealie. If they ate their food well...

i have draped fleece across the cage to separate them. but i didn't think maybe she just wants a new toy. or something that's in there. I'll try new toys tonight. I can say the joeys have come out of pouch and detached from momma. they were riding on the back of Dwight (the dad) last night. He was hanging on the side of the cage that Nova was. She was just staring and chirping and clicking... it was really quite adorable that she was as curious about them as she was. She's gunna make a good momma.
