Hello, GC! I'm working on creating some unique toys for my Gliders and wanted to see if some of the materials I wanted to use were safe. Specifically with rope. I have two ropes of different sizes that I was considering making toys with and wanted to see if they were made safely.

I have a braided polypropylene utility rope that is 5/16" diameter and a diamond braid synthetic clothesline 3/16" in diameter.

Other than that I would be using some old T-shirts sewn so there will be no fraying, felt, and some plastic food containers.

Please let me know if there are any issues you foresee with the materials. Thank you!

:welcomegc:.

I'm not sure about the ropes, if they don't fray, maybe okay, but usually not recommended. Fleece, cut into strips and braided make a safer alternative. it can be done in various widths as well.

Watch out for loose threads and when sewing, use small, tight stitching.

Maybe someone with more experience with those materials will have some helpful input.

I'm curious to see what you're planning, not the usual materials I see used for toy making.

Anyway, toy making is fun, so make safe, and enjoy cool

Ropes being bad has been confirmed. I found toys made out of polypropylene though so the material itself is fine, I just picked the wrong medium for it.

I'll be using felt to make ropes and such.

Please use fleece instead of felt, or did you mean fleece?

Yeah, sorry. Fleece.

Well, my original plans for toys went pretty poorly so I ditched them. I've since made some fleece toys, lanyard and bead toys that I haven't put in yet since I want to test them first, and some pouches/blankets.

I really wish i had a sewing machine, haha.

I'm sorry, I'm sure it was frustrating. I wanted a sewing machine, and have found that I'm not too fond of sewing, lol. Maybe if I had more practice, but I didn't really enjoy it the way I'd hoped to. I do love making toys though, and thought it would be nice to be able to accomplish complete cage sets with toys in any theme that I decided on going with.

When you can, I'd love to see photos of the toys you made.

In a few days i'll post pictures when I finally can put together my supreme Glider toy project. The "Super Glider Mobile HFT Table" with the HFT part meaning "Happy Fun Time."

Its going to be great.
