Last night i decided to try to supplement feed the smaller of my 2 joeys. Hes gaining weight from moms milk but his sister is gaining much more. I mixed up a batch but there was quite a bit left over. I put it in the fridge but i didnt see anywhere if i was suppose to or how long it will last. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Why did you try to supplement feed? It is normal for one to gain more than the other, that is just how it works. When you take a joey away from a mom and supplement feed, each time it will lessen the amount of milk mom needs to produce and the supply will become less.

When you have a case that the joeys "NEED" to be supplemented (mom has a severe pouch infection or something happened to mom) the larger joey should be pulled and supplemented and the smaller joey should be allowed to nurse on mom to get the nutrients mom produces.

Peggy is right about supplement feeding.

Have you increased the food you are feeding your breeding pair while they are pregnant and nursing.

You should ad an extra serving of the staple and fruit and veggies. If they are cleaning up all of that, then offer them more.

I have increased moms food. She eats more than she did but less than i give her. My baby girl is a little older older than the boy if i go by when they opened eyes. She seems a small and only slightly slower version of her mom and he still seems personality wise the same as when he was first out of pouch but a little bigger with more fur. I was just trying to give him a boost.

I always like to have some food left in the dishes in the morning.

If the dishes are empty I always feel like I didn't give them enough food. Specially the gliders with joeys.

It was never mentioned what type of supplement was being given and it was more important for the information to be given NOT to supplement than about how long it would last in the refrigerator. thumb
