I just bought a toy for my sugar glider, its a coconut shape with ropes hanging shells on it. is it glider safe? I can provide a picture if no one knows what im talking about.

Please post a picture.

The ropes are not going to be safe, but you could replace the rope with fleece strips.

Honestly, depends on what type of 'ropes' they are... if they are made out of rexlace (some vendors make braids and call them braided ropes) they are safe.

A photo will be good.

I definitely feel the rope portions should be traded out. Braided fleece ropes would be a good replacement as suggested already. I wouldn't worry too much if you could reattach the shells, they shouldn't hurt, but there are other options that would be better used with fleece. You can use the c-links throughout the braided fleece to attach toys to them.

Change out the rope with fleece, you can even use fleece strips to put the shells back on.
