My daughter found a suggestion saying that leaving on a night light can reduce the frequency of barking during the night. I'm assuming this is because the gliders may be confused as to the time of day. Does this really work? Has anyone tried this? Could this, over time, possibly harm a glider?

We're planning on keeping them in our living room which is right next to the kitchen, and we always leave a light on in the kitchen in case someone is up in the middle of the night (and also for security purposes).

Not necessarily.

This is their way of communicating just as talking is ours wink They are either talking to each other or simply trying to get your attention for play or interaction.

They could also be barking that something is wrong. There are many reason for this sound. Your job is to learn the different meanings for your gliders.

:gluck: rofl

Once they settle in, you may find it a very pleasant sound, and you may find they bark less or more. Just depends on the gliders. Some are very chatty and some are not.

Thanks for the info. We don't have gliders yet, I'm still doing research to make sure this won't be a very expensive mistake. They sure are cute as heck, but I'm not convinced yet that they're not just little poop factories that'll keep us up all night.

Be sure the light kept on in the kitchen is a very dim one.

Keeping a bright light on at night can interfere with the gliders being awake, active and eating their food well at night.

In order to enjoy your gliders in the evening, you may also need to dim the lights in the living room.

My gliders will not come out of their sleeping pouch until the lights in the room are off. They are OK with the light from a small television or lap top computer screen but if I turn on the lamp they all head back into the sleeping pouch.

We have a red rope light strung along the ceiling.
We were told that the color red was not going to 'hurt' their eyes.
