I've had this idea rolling around in my head for a while, so I thought I'd finally talk about it and maybe get some opinions. I'd like some sort of smallish carrier to use for my sugar glider. I want something that I can use to take her to vet check-ups, and when I'm traveling to be able to hold it down with a seat-belt. Rest assured, this is for daytime travel and of course she will have a nice cage to be in at night. The other advantage is, that one time the hotel didn't have our room ready when we got there, we could have used something better to carry the sugar gliders around while we waited (as they definitely wouldn't have been left in the hot car).
I was thinking of getting a carrier like this (for example):
And then taking it to my sewing machine and strategically sewing either D-rings into the top, or something else to facilitate safe sleeping-pouch attachment to the inside.
Anyone who has had similar ideas, suggestions on how I could go about doing this, or good alternatives are more than welcome!

I haven't seen this one before, and my only suggestion would be to make sure there are no loose threads inside. I have a small wire cage we put ours in for extra long trips or for when the back seat is full. I tried to find but apparently no longer available. It has a couple of issues like a small front door. It disturbs them when I stuff the pouch in there. It is similar to this:
And tossed the wheel, water bottle and stuff. Used the shelf for sliced fruit and bowl for water. I actually like this one better because it has a top door. I put in the backseat, cover with fleece and buckle in.
For shorter trips, we have a collapseable similar to the pic but we don't use it when the backseat has stuff in it for fear of crushing. If it's a short trip to the vet, they go into their bonding pouch and I hang them on the back of the front seat over the headrest. I don't drive extra fast, there is nothing in the backseat, and hanging on the back of the front seat gives sudden stop protection.

That picture was just a random example of the kind of thing I was talking about, not necessarily the one I wanted. I was actually wanting to go for one that was more hard-sided enough that squishing the gliders wouldn't be an issue at all. One of the reasons I was looking at ones similar to the above is also for those rare times where I have to carry them around in public so they have a little more breathing room than in just the bonding pouch, plus there's a (hopefully) hard side just in case someone in a crowd bumps in to me (I'm terrified of that happening and having a squished glider). Ideally I wouldn't have to take her into a crowd, but it has happened once and it was a pain with the bonding pouch.
That little hamster cage and hanging them on the seat are both good ideas!

My friend uses those when she comes up to visit. She is traveling in the evening and they want out of the bonding pouch before she get here. The work well, she just puts each cage in their pouches, opened, in their own dog carrier and comes up. Four cages four dog carriers. A couple are even on wheels.

I have considered building a small pvc frame to snuggly fit inside my collapseable. I have gotten away from using it because we have had it for a year now, and it just doesn't stay upright so well anymore. I refuse to buy a new one till I find the one I'm looking for...
I also have this one in use ramdomly in public, short trips, trips to the vet. It has 2 pouches, one out of fleece and one out of tight woven (the good stuff) flannel. I can separate them, or drop them in one, and my wallet and keys in the other. I made it for fun. It was quite complicated, I didn't go by a pattern, and don't have a pattern. But it is safe.

Mary had to put a PVC frame in one of her carriers to keep it from folding up.
If you drill holes then you could put rings in and hold the pouches up.

oh gosh I was considering making my own lame one with fleece and a pvc frame, but of course I didn't think to use the pvc frame right in the premade one! That's a great idea! Thank you guys!
