6:30am...sitting here with the gliders bedding down inside my shirt.
We seemed to be doing so well...but the biting has started again in earnest.

It's like one minute they love me, love to explore all over me. They next minute I'm lunch. Dr Jekyl and Mr. Glide...

It's only the female that is the problem. The male has only bitten me a few times...overexcited at meal worm time...and never badly. But the female is mining for bone. :-( She got me good enough I should have taken a pic of it.

I left THE sweatshirt in the cage most of the night...I think that helped.

But now they are falling asleep in my shirt....no pouch. I hope they don't wake up and try and remove my nipples. Can you feel the conflict here?

Been reading from this site lots of great stories about glider bonding...including body language. Wow...I didn't realize I was so scary. :-(

The dogs are getting less obsessed with the Gliders, which is good. They don't seem to have any fear of Chelsea sitting outside the cage watching. But I am wondering if letter her watch them in the cage is effecting my progress. Dogs can look, but no touch. When it's Blanket time (I dont have a tent yet) the dogs are banished.

I guess this is where I would start carrying them around the house. But no pouch...no bra. I hope they dont fall out of there. If they were in or under the hood of my sweatshirt I would feel better...but they have camped out right on me belly!

I had a friend years ago whose gliders also liked the same place on her body that yours do which seems less restrictive than a pouch or bra/bra pouch. She also had the same fear of them falling out and her not being aware it happened.

When we have those fears, we need to listen to our inner self because those fears or cautions are usually warranted. One of her gliders did fall out. Probably because he was asleep kept him from harm but it could have been tragic if she had accidentally stepped on him agree

So possibly some retraining is in order for all concerned. Check etsy for pouches that can be attached to either bra or sports bra (you can get a sports bra as big as you want to suit your own comfort level) or even a camisole if you aren't comfortable with any bra.

Bottom line, they need to be secured on your body until you are 100% confident you will know where they are and what their habits are while they are on you.

If you are worried about them 'falling out' of your shirt you might consider putting them under an undershirt and tucking in the undershirt to prevent the problem.

As for the biting - you might also try an undershirt between the gliders and your skin and tucking in both shirts to prevent the gliders from falling out of your shirt.

Hey all!
Just came off a good night with Gizmo and Harley. Stayed up with them a long time and we had some great interaction.

Gizmo has claimed the spot on the back of my neck, under the hood of my sweatshirt. Harley has just how discovered that spot and has settled in with her man.

Last night was big in a lot of ways: Sugar Dad brought home new toys--YAY! And he put us on a proper diet--YAY!...(Hey...where's the chicken?!)

At the moment I only have one bonding pouch, so I have been leaving my nasty sweatshirt (now designated at the bonding shirt) in the cage for them t sleep in.

Here's some highlights...

Discovering the ball pit

At one point in the night they decided they needed a nap. After a while I looked in on them and caught this incredibly cute snuggle in action. The pic didn't quite catch it, as they started to move before the shot went off, but Harley is snuggled in there with her arm around Gizmo.

Here's Harley exploring the sweatshirt...

A Shot of the new toys from the Dollar Tree

The New Food!

I have a video also...need to get it off the phone and up to Photobucket. Will try and add it later. These were taken off my phone...gotta dig through the post move mess and find my better camera.

Only three bites last night...two exploration bites from Harley, and she stopped when I made the sound. One from Gizmo was an excitement bite--MEALWORM, BANZAI!!!

Harley got under my shirt all the way to the bare skin last night also and had herself a tour. It was an overload of tickles and small scratches...couldn't stop laughing...kind-of
Having her down at the bare skin really highlighted how much I DON'T trust her at this point. These exercises are good for me too.

At this moment they are asleep together in that perfect spot under my hood. I am going to let them stay there as long as they want.

Thanks for looking everyone!

2:40am...
Kinda let the furkids down tonight I think. After I got home last night I put them up on my shoulders and they burrowed into their favorite spot under the hood of my sweatshirt. We did a few hours of walking around time, making dinner for everyone.
Then I put them back in the cage for a while and fell asleep until just now. :-(

Taking them out of the pouch last night was a challenge. Harley bit me a few times in the process--she was not thrilled about coming out. Gentle bites...and she stopped when I made the sound. Still...no bites would be better.

We have been building trust, and I have been a little more bold about handling them. At first I couldn't take them out of their pouch--was half afraid of injuring them, and half afraid of getting bitten.
We have graduated now to being able to get them out of the pouch and pick them up off almost any surface.
Two good interactions from last night's round were:
When Gizmo jumped up on top of the cage (while I was still trying to extricate his girlfriend). He got up there and started to make a chittering noise. It's the most pronounced vocalization I have heard from him. He then starts to dance and wave his butt around over the top of the cage. He did this for about 5 min...on and off...really cool to see. I assume this is a territorial behavior.
And just a few min ago, getting them out again. This time after some small harassment of the pouch, Harley poked her head up. I offered her my hand (fist closed) and...she *walked* up onto my shoulder!!!

Is this place a support group? I found myself getting a little misty there. :-)

They are settled in on the shoulder now.

Gizmo seems to have lost a little weight since I got him. And his activity level is much better. When he came to me he was a lazy lump. He's more active now and occasionally jumps. Harley doesn't much like to walk anywhere if she can jump there. :-)

Ugh...just napping together has some value as a bonding activity I hope. Because I am feeling like that...

Thanks for looking all!
Dave

I've also notice the butt-wiggling behavior out of my new male glider. My old one never did that, and I was confused about what he was doing! I wonder if it is indeed a territorial thing

Well last night, just as I was finishing up my last post, the gliders woke up again and we tried to inspire them to play.
It was great. They were bouncing off me and off the new furniture in the glider room.
I was looking Harley in the eye from about 3 feet away as she was on a shelf that was close to eye level...

FWAP! Like being hit in the face with a furry waffle...with claws.

YAY! I think they are starting to like me...no bloodshed again!

It was a territorial thing, he was scent marking.

Ah, yes. I love watching my gliders play. I haven't been able to keep a routine like I had before my first move across country, due to so many changes and living conditions. I sure hope I can find a way to get back to a better routine, I miss having it and I know they do.

I think my gliders are still working on the coordinated landing things, or their just a little too small to reach around my face for a grip. Merlin (more than the others) loves to go for my face even if my shoulders or top of my head is closer. Half of the time he falls off while scrambling for a paw hold. I've already had to explain to coworkers a few times that I don't need shaving lessons. shakehead
