Hi Guys,

I Keep a trio of gliders 2 males and a female, the males are twins.
The female just got her baby out of pouch and i was checking them out when they where running loose in my room and i caught one of the males pulling the baby from the mother and drop it on the floor. so i took the baby and the mom and separate them as i am not sure which one is the dad. Did i do the right thing?
And can i let her stay alone in another room for the time being?

Please help!!!

Taking Mom and baby away from the males was probably a good idea.

If they aren't neutered, they will want to breed her again. If they have been recently neutered, from what I understand, they may still try to breed.

In a pair, the Dad helps out with the baby to give Mom a break. I wouldn't think a a trio with 2 males would be good for the female or joey. They will pull the joey from what reading I've done. Hopefully someone with experience can tell you correctly or tell you more.

Please keep us posted, and

Hows the joey doing? Did Momma take him back?

I'm glad I was helpful, I haven't had personal experience, but have read about it.

Please keep us posted.

Well yeah ofcourse she took it back, this is not the problem.
Problem is that i did not know if it was okay to separate her from the other two. i did read about it also but than again, as every animal has it's own personallity it is hard to say without any experience.

It is probably not a good idea for them to have out of cage time, at least not all of them at once, while this joey is still so young. It is just too easy for many things to go wrong while you are trying to keep up with three active adults.

Mom will need help even with one joey, so separating her is not the best idea IF there are no problems with the trio at this time.

Question: Are both males intact now?

If so, even though they are brothers, there may come a time when this peace and tranquility will come to an end as they establish who is the alpha in the trio. This could even happen while the joey is very young. I would strongly suggest having at least one and possibly both neutered OR separating the males at some point getting the other a wife of his own wink

Yes the mom can raise the baby by herself. It isn't the normal but I have done it a few times and baby and mom were fine and healthy.

Some things to help her would leave her in origional cage so that she is more comfortable with familar smells and items. If too late and mom has been taken out of cage try and give her the glider smelly pouch or blankets from colony. If possible give her a couple of her toys or items.

Watch how she reacts when awake and in day time listen for bad noises toward the joey. She should leave baby in nest while she comes out to eat(smelly pouch should help). Place food near her sleeping area so she is near baby. If you do traditional handling of baby watch how she reacts(smelly fleece helps baby be calm). If she comes for baby let her have it or place back in pouch. You may want to handle her and baby while in sleeping pouch and give momma yummy treats so you all have a positive and calm play handling time.HTH

Well she is in a room now where she was not so long ago so she is still familliar. other than this i let them out always together normally they are used to this i dont really need to watch them as they are used to play in my living room they climb up the curtains and glide and jump around like they do every night. The males get along just fine. all of them are doing good normally but now the cup is there there are some complications.

I did these things as placing food near the sleeping pouch and it is one of the pouches that they are used to sleep in so smell is okay. Mother is fine with me handling the baby but she is cautious as she should be as a good mom, i read that it is good to take the young out of her sight for a few minutes every day and than bring it back so she knows you wont hurt the baby is this true? Mom is not getting nervous as i handle both of them as i handle them every night and they get to play every night she is one of my most bounded gliders so that is a good thing i gues.

I also feed her some extra nutrients and insects now as i gues she needs the calcium and proteins i gues? i will keep an close eye on them anyway and give her some extra attention above the other 2 as she is alone with her cup to prevent depression?

No they are not intact but there is no domination inbetween them there is one more dominant male and the other one just accepts this.
