I have 2 boys that I've had for a bit over a year. One came from PP and the other came from a breeder. My PP baby does this thing where he'll sometimes sit for long periods (like 10 minutes) of time and not move. Like, practically at all. He'll blink and move his ears and occasionally slightly move his head. He won't break this trance until I move something within his line of vision like his cage cover and then he'll snap out of it. I've read threads over time that it could be a seizure. He's done this literally since I got him so I figured it was just something he does. Last night he did it again but he was hanging upside down. I usually only notice it when he's first woken up but my husband said he did it the other morning when I was at work. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it normal? Is there anything I should be looking out for? I'm not really worried but I'd like more insight on it.

It sounds like he is playing possum, gliders will freeze if they think a predator sees them.

Usually with the seizures I have witnessed then will shake, blink and drool.

If you are worried, take them in for a vet exam. It is a good idea to have them seen at least once a year. That way you can establish a good relationship with your vet.

Thanks for the reply! As I said I'm not overly concerned but I just didn't know if it was common or not. I have a great vet who has been seeing gliders for 30 years and I see him twice a year for a checkup and fecals. I'll keep an eye on him but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Thank you!

My little Buttercup :grey: does this too, not for as long though. It seems to happen more when she's just waking up (which she may have a bit of shivering) or if I startle her. It's like she freezes, she will just watch me very intently and not move her body at all. Usually if I offer her a yogie she will snap out of it and run off to a corner to snack, then she will go about her business. Everything always seems fine with her movements and behavior after this happens.

Fevy did this a lot more when he was younger. I used to call it his "evening meditation." When he'd just be waking up, he'd sit on top of his cage, frozen, and stare into space. I was told it's "playing possum" like Feather said. Never know what kind of predators could be lurking in apartments and houses I guess. Fevy does this less often now, but on occasion he'll still freeze in a "you can't see me, I'm invisible" kinda way.
