Where did the information that says if you can feel lumps in their patagium means your glider is over weight?

Why do people think their glider cannot be overweight without having these lumps?

Is there any scientific proof behind this?

I have now spoken to three different veterinarians and none of them have ever heard of this before.

I've been wondering about this as well, because I know years ago when I had two girls given to me, they were -obviously- obese, but didn't have any lumps in their patagium. They were just massive, rolly glider-balls that had been fed a diet of anything they seemed to want. (When they came to me I was told they LOVED peanuts. ;P)

I am absolutely positive those two were over weight... The larger one had a chin roll so big it almost looked like a rabbit's dulap, but since rejoining the forms I've seen the 'Not overweight unless' around a lot.

Peggy, I believe I read it on here when I first got into gliders.

No one has every corrected me on this, the one glider that I had that tipped the scales at 200 grams was not fat, he was full of tumors you could feel them when you held him.

Mary's two gliders that are fluffy feel like they are just skin and it bags up to make their moobs.

If someone feels lumps, they better get their gliders in for a checkup.

Here is a good read for all:

Ok, that was a good read! But even with 2 years of college I had to re read 3 times and another cup of coffee to kick in my brain.

Please note while reading this research was done in Australia, and their winters happen during our summers...

Took me a bit to wrap my brain around that.

Now I have to go back and take notes an read again.

Thank you Peggy!
