Me again, guys. XD

So my boys got their 'first' cage upgrade, and it's been decked out with wheels, hammock, hanging 'chains' and fleece. We also went out and bought a little rattle ball, barrel of monkeys, and a bowl full of pom-poms.

They LOVE their ball pit. Every morning I find little pom-poms strewn all over the cage. (and every monkey dragged from the barrel)

My question however, is what sort of treats should I hide among the poms? I've done little bite-sized bits of dried fruit and yogies, but what do your little fuzz-monsters like to have in their foraging toys?

I have to "ditto" Hutch for my girls.

When I pull their dishes out in the morning, I put toys back where they go, they hear you and will assume there are treats put in as well. I don't replace treats daily, unless it's a favorite fruit or morsel vegetable from their food dish. That way they don't expect a treat every day.

I've never tried pine nuts, so I'll have to give those a go. They seem to be disinterested in sunflower seeds, and the tiny mango/pineapple bits, but yogies are certainly a favorite. I may have to see if they like other flavors (Currently we have 'pink' which I think is supposed to be raspberry, or something like that. Whatever it is, Mochi prefers it to every other treat or food you could offer him, even the mealworms! XD)

I -thought- about leaving a worm or two in there for them to discover, but my fear of it crawling out of their cage is just too strong. (*shudder* Mealies are delivered only by tweezers. I'm not brave enough for the bugs- and Chance would take off half my thumb in the process of getting his!)

You could always use canned meal worms. Sun Coast Sugar Gliders sells can'o'worms in a six pack & mine don't seem to care about the difference between live & canned; they disappear quickly!

I might try that. I'm sure Mochi wouldn't mind them being from a can, but Chance might. His favorite thing is to -snatch- them from the 'giving tweezers'... Even when he was just 6 weeks OOP, his prey drive was -really- strong. If it moves, he -goes- for it. (Still...He's a bit greedy on mealworms, so he might not care. ;P)

Michelle hi!
Welcome to the madness. :-)
Ball pits are great.

Hard to keep clean though...

I went to a larger tupperware full of ping pong balls, as the ball pit.

Easy to wash...but the real reason is the little cloth poms--if they get food on them--the gliders can actually end up ingesting the fibers of the poms, while trying to get the food off.

With ping pong balls you can throw in wet treats like apple chunks or whatever. No danger of ingestion of those fibers.

It sounds like they are having a blast. :-)

I might have to try upgrading to ping-pong balls.

So far I'm only using dry treats with their ball pit (which is a very small chinese bowl filled with poms) but it's kept on the bottom of the opposite side of the cage from where they get their food, so it -shouldn't- get too dirty even from things that they drop/toss aside when digging through their salad.

I will keep that in mind though- I was a little suspicious of using the pom poms at first, but I saw that several other users here had them and didn't seem to have any poor results.

We'll switch it up soon however.

Has anyone thought about buying one of those ferret ball-pits for Tent time or Bathroom play? They have a little 'pool' even, and the balls seem to be very light... Do you think the gliders might enjoy digging through something that large? XD
